Arrests on OCS package

I was wondering if anyone has been arrested and been accepted and if they have could explain what they did?

I have a reckless driving on my record and thats why i am asking?

Thanks everyone.

Don't sweat it, and be honest when they ask about it. They will consider things like when it happened, and if it was a repeat offense. Again be honest, show that you have improved from that experience. Also having a rock star package along with it wouldn't hurt.

And if that doesn't work out, you can always try out for the Cincinnati Bengals. :D

The time frame is probably kind of important. I doubt it would be a big issue if it was in high school or something. I have a buddy who was arrested when he was 17 for assault, which is probably worse than reckless driving. He commissions (Navy) in a few months.

Can you go back and change it? Probably not, so move on from it and like previously mentioned be honest, they may not find out if you lie, but you sure as hell don't want to be caught if you try.

When I was filling out paperwork at my recruiter's office before submitting my package someone called and asked if having an arrest on your record would be to much of a negative impact, he turned to one of the other ORs and asked him what he thought about an arrest. The other OR asked what the arrest was for, she said she was caught with a crack pipe at a party. The other OR and my OR agreed that she would not pass a selection board. So unless ORs are curious and just like to hear why you were arrested, I got from his asking that there are "acceptable" arrests.

Hope that helps, but don't focus on the negative spend time making your positives really standout.

From what I have seen on here, a reckless driving ticket is nothing to worry about. People get in with worse. Will it help your application - No? will it kill it - I doubt it. Talk to your local OR - if they decide it is worth submitting your app, then do what you can to strengthen your other areas.

If you look through my previous posts, you will see I am applying with less than a squeaky-clean record, and my OR decided it was still worth his time to submit mine. By no means am I counting on a pro-rec, but with an overabundance of applicants, it means something that they will take the time to work with you.

Just to help calm you, I was arrested for Exhibition of Speed, a sub-law of wreckless. I made it fine into BDCP with a little explaining on my application.

I was arrested for assault when I was 19 and got in. A fellow Ensign was arrested for public intoxiacation and got in.

It won't help your cause, but it's not a show-stopper.

"Wreckless"...I like it. I guess that means there was no actual impact involved in your exhibition of speed. Heck, "exhibition of speed" is what Naval aviation is all about....and it's a good thing to remain wreckless...

thanks everyone for your help. i have been in this process since february and i was just curious to see if it will hurt my package. It always helps to hear other stories and situations.

I know a guy who was arrested for possession of Marijuana and underage possession of alcohol. He commissions on Friday and reports to NASP the following monday for flight school. It can be done, but make damn sure the rest of your package is good enough to justify them taking you.

Like everyone has said - Be honest and make it apparent that it won't be a recurring issue.

I was ticketed, and could have been arrested, for racing a 2003 Mustang Cobra that pulled up beside me on the interstate end of my junior year in college. Speeds were well into the triple digits and I'm currently nearing the end of Primary.

If this is what you really want to do, make it happen. Have a strong enough packet that any negative is far outweighed by your potential.

Had an arrest a long time ago for using a potato gun on a dry lake bed (which happened to be private property)...trespass (misdemeanor)...... the charge ended up being dropped, put it down on the application, etc. Well, when the OR did a record check it came back with a felony (!!). After about two days worth of phone calls, it turns out the Sheriff's Office keyed in the wrong code after the judge dropped the charge, and charged me with a felony. I never knew about it until he pulled my criminal history. Luckily the FDLE reviewed the error and court documents - they just took it off my record now. The OR thinks it will be no big deal - but it will delay my application until I can get all of the documents and a letter from the FDLE showing the error, etc.

Anyone that has an arrest may want to take a look at what is actually on file before doing the JPAS and application. IMHO

I have an arrest record. It happened when I was in college. Both were dismissed in court, but will pop right up on an FBI background check. The were both class 1 misdemeanors and both happened the same morning. With them on my record, I became a US Citizen and I was Pro-Rec last month. Now I have not been FS just yet, so well see...
