Latest Whiting Gouge

OK, about to check out of NASC next week and just found out I'm heading to Whiting instead of Corpus for primary. Haven't paid much attention to the latest Whiting gouge and couldn't find any recent threads on it.

Is the wait to class up 2-3 weeks like Corpus? Anybody getting leave approved between check-in and class up? What's the squadron all the 'cool kids' hope to get and which one makes you curse the day you were born? (just kidding, we all know those don't exist:) ...right? ...right?:():D

The wait varies a little bit, but it was 0-3 weeks when I checked in about 2 months ago - a few people finished API on Thursday and started ground on Monday. I'm pretty sure people are still being forced into government housing too.

And those squadrons definitely do exist. The consensus seems to be that right now 2 is the place to be, 6 is a close second, and 3....well...you don't have any control, so no sense worrying about it. 6 seems to be getting people through the fastest.

Hey, I'm gonna be a married dude in August.

But I'm in a whole other category of cool by myself. Nothing to do with Whiting, but I just needed to let you all know in case you didn't. (about the cool part)

Two to three weeks sounds about right. That's what it was two months ago when I started. 2 or 6 is where you want to be; I'm sure you'll hear more than enough about 3 to make up your own opinion.

Word is that 28 went downhill real quick after the guys in my timeframe left. I think red can tell you about it...

Ya, I know. it's cyclical. EVERYONE in my timeframe thought "our" squadron blew nuts. Didn't meet ONE dude who thought otherwise. But it seems like you and Drob and those folks thought it was fine. Maybe the ones who liked it just thought they did cuz they got jets or something. Either way, getting jets in a squadron that doesn't blow is STILL better than getting jets in a squadron that blows ass. ;)

It's all perspective. If it's all you know, it's all you know. Just why torpedo is naive (maybe dumb) enough to think Vance doesn't suck ass. :D

To answer your questions:
1) the wait is 2-3 weeks
2) leave is approved between check in and class up, provided you have all of your paperwork turned in (IA certificates, air card, SAAR forms, etc)
2) VT-2 is chill; VT-3 is mostly AF guys, but isn't bad at all; VT-6 has the highest attrition rate (lately, trends change) of any other squadron, HOWEVER I've met people who love it, and others who hate it

Next question.....
