My brother in law is a National Guard JAG who, at 42, just finished Airborne at Benning. He is an ultra marathoner ( 50-100 mile runs through mountains and deserts) but still found the course a challenge for his 42 year old body. Military.com had him contribute to a fitness column about preparing for Airborne School. The second link is his blog while going through Airborne last month. If you are thinking of Airborne, or a similar program, these are good reads.

Yea, he is a pretty interesting guy. Samrt, good writer and speaker, great singer, very accomplished classical musician (bass violin), fluent in Spanish and can get along in 2 or 3 other languages, EMT, ski patrol. He may be putting together a team to run some cross Sahara ultra endurance race in Morocco (his State Guard has a Partnership for Peace relationship with the Moroccan military and they invited them to compete).

Actually, the relation is my wife's younger brother. And yes, the smarts and talent tend to run in the family. That is why I live a gentlemanly life. ;)
