airsickness drugs at primary

IIRC, they try to keep you off drugs as much as possible. My form partner had to log half a dozen sessions in the spin chair before they gave her anything.

do you continue at the chair if they give you drugs too? I'm just asking because I'm anticipating having problems and I was just wondering what the program was like.

Ginger works. Had a roommate who took some big ginger pills and he got over it in a few flights, I also heard slapping some ginger root in like a skoal bandit works for in the airplane relief too.

I had a PPL, couple dozen hours in gliders and a dozen or so hours doing aerobatics in a Pitts. Didn't think I was going to have problems at all.

I puked like crazy on my first flight in primary. Had my helmet inside a hefty bag for an hour and a half. Absolutely miserable.

So, try not to worry about it. You don't know until you're actually up there. The more you think about puking, the more likely it will happen.

Try to relax and don't stress about it. And eat bananas. They taste about the same going down as going up.

But seriously. Stay rested before your flight, stay hydrated and EAT. Empty stomachs are just as bad as full stomachs. Avoid dairy products, greasy/heavy meats, etc. Stick with something like a banana and a bagel without cream cheese or some toast.

And take a hefty bag.

Go to GNC to get this. Some dudes swore by it. And by "it," I mean the ginger root. Not skoal.

They'll explain the program to you before you ever even set foot in a T-34. If you actually have a problem, you will become even more familiar with it. As has been said above, don't worry about it. All you need to know is that there is a program in place to help those with weak stomachs and it's purportedly very effective.

I got the meds first with no chair (yet). I got something for the nausea and dextroamphetamine (sp?) for the drowsiness.

I was getting a respiratory infection that I didn't know about at the same time...so the meds got me thru the airsickness and then the infection downed me but I'm good now. I should start PA's this coming week...See what happens.

For me, the best solution to airsickness was acclimation in the jet. I didn't have any problems in primary, but I started getting airsick in the T-45 during WEPS and ACM training with all the dynamic maneuvering. Since they can't give you meds in Advanced, I spent all my free time sitting in the backseat of lead ACM events getting used to all the maneuvering while someone else was flying. Worked like a charm.

I also had a lot of success with dropping a few ginger pills prior to walking on my flights. Don't sweat it; the docs will work with you and come up with a solution that will work for your situation.

thanks i appreciate the responses. it took me about 15 flights to stop feeling queasy in IFS, so I was just curious as to what kind of help they provide.

thanks again.
