I was reading the other day about how this was apparently tried back in '07. The original bill passed in the House of Representatives, but eventually got amended and that particular stipulation was removed. I doubt the outcome will be much different this time around.

The article mentions he has been dropping this bill since '01

According to the article, there would still be a CNO and CMC just like now. SECNAV would be called Secretary of the Navy and Marine Corps. The point of the bill is just to change the name of the department (and thus, the Secretary's title).

This is stupid and kind of shows a lack of understanding of the structure of the department. This isn't even a feel-good, warm and fuzzy symbolic move, and the Marine Corps thrives on feel-good, warm and fuzzy symbolic moves in Congress.

And I hate the "mens department" joke.

What Mike said and it's a f*ckin waste of f*ckin time. There's more important sh!t to worry about than a damn name change.

Some of these guys need a Chuck Norris foot to the face.

Well, we just elected "change". Did you have "hope" that it would actually mean something? :icon_tong

I am running with the pack on this one. Does anyone really give a f?

I think it's part of a long-term "strategy" that is actually a bunch of smaller uncoordinated efforts to try to change the Navy into the Marine Corps over time. Where do you think we're getting our new uniforms from (which we are too ashamed of to wear outside) or our Navy Corps Values from?

Eventually, the DoN will become the Department of the Naval Maritime Service, then the Department of the Naval Maritime Corps, and finally the Naval Marine Corps. It will be fabulous! I can already feel my ego growing! Soon I, too, will be unable to use my legs when I'm 40.

Did I take it too far?
