EDO DCO Selection Board

Mods hard at work splitting overgrown thread into useful DCO community/subject/issue threads

Hello all.

Noticed the topic was about DCO selection boards.. thought I'd share my road toward a commission thus far and see what you all might be share about your knowledge/experience of the process.

I'm about a year and a quarter into the process now.. Graduated from college last June with a degree in Computer Science. Spent my last two terms working on the LOR's and the easter egg hunt to complete the SF86. Nearly finished with my application, waiting on a call to interview with the selection board, I got a call from the Navy calling me up for an interview. Happened to be with NAVSEA for a civilian position (i appearantly gave my resume to them awhile back). I went and ended up getting the job. So I've been working here for the last 8 months now.

Still thinking that I put all this work into putting together my application, and that my Letters of Recommendation might get stale if I waited too long and I never want to do it again, I put in for a DCO Reserve Commission as an Engineering Duty Officer last November. Early this march I was called by my recruiter and told congrats, that I was professionally recommended. Cool! but wait there's more.

They asked me to do a medical test, which I already did for the AD position I was working on earlier, and asked me to resign another SF86. That was three weeks ago now.

Kinda of ANSI waiting for the official word.. does anyone know when and how often this process takes place for them to select applicats? I'm working with NRD Los Angeles.

Your recruiter should be able to tell you when the next EDO board meets.

There is no rule, however, from the time a board meets until you hear if you were/were not selected ranges from 2 - 4 weeks.

This link may help in terms of board dates (advise calling your Officer recruiter):

Best of luck with everything. As someone who has been in the process over a year and a half now, I can tell you it gets frustrating sometimes. However, keep your head high, focus on your civilian job and don't let the wait get to you. It will come when it comes. Keep us all informed.

Sounds to me like iroessle was already picked up at a board.

Truth be told iroessle, you could be waiting a few months. I waited 4 months after being selected before I was actually commissioned. I've heard that some take even longer, others not as long. It's a case by case basis, but i've never heard of anything less than 2 months. I get the feeling that my results were just about average. Don't go too stir crazy while you're waiting!

Yeah I talked to my recruiter and he said that I did pass the board and I'm that I'm 95% through the process. I should be drilling by June but that it isn't for sure yet until SECDEF makes it official.

For some reason I though it was more like a month and that I didn't start drilling right away or something

So 2-4 months it is then..

Thanks Everyone!

Final Select Letters?

Has anyone who was on the February boards received their Final Select letters yet? Looks like people doing OCS who were on the Feb. boards are starting to get their notifications of Final Select. I've heard that once we, as reservists, get ours, it's approximately 10 business days to COMDOCS.

Negative for me and I'm not expecting to be commissioned until June. If it happens earlier than June, then hooyah.

I know it probably won't happen, but I'm hoping to get it done in the first couple weeks of May. Hubby will be PCSing cross-country without me (for the time being) and I'd really like it if he was there when I commissioned. If it doesn't happen by then, he won't be able to celebrate it with me. But such is life.

Woo-hoo! I got my final select letter today. According to the letter, COMDOCs should be here in 10 days (and the letter was dated the 14th).

I'm currently in the middle of filling out all of my MEPS paperwork. ::headdesk:: (I know -- suck it up, princesss, it's the military.) I never actually got a physical final select letter. Dumb question: is that pre-MEPS, post-MEPS, or along the same timeline? I'm a big fan of confirmation, although things are looking good.

Hope all y'all are moving along apace or something even faster.

I was selected on the 15JAN board, went to MEPS on 06FEB and got my Final Select letter on 18MAY. Final Select is just before your COMDOCs arrive, which can't happen until everything is all set (MEPS, etc).

Have fun at MEPS!

ETA: I never received anything "official" about my selection other than my recruiter telling me I was selected until I received my FS letter. So don't worry... not hearing anything is normal!

Thanks, SavvyPR. We're a bit behind on my MEPS, I suppose. I'm trusting my recruiter -- who has been amazing -- and moving forward as quickly as I can. There was a hiccup on my paperwork after Board results came back, due to paperwork being lost during a transition as someone left for a deployment. C'est la vie. It's already been more than a year... I can wait a bit longer.
