Smoking doobies is not always detrimental to your career.

...and many many musicians. I think the list would be easier if I just named the ones that didn't do illegal drugs. ;)

That's exactly my point. It just seems laughable how many of our leaders on all sides of the political spectrum would, in today's day and age, most likely not be considered for the kind of jobs most people on this forum have (or aim to have).

It is interesting that the last three presidents (5 elections, Clinton "not inhaling" included) admitted to doing drugs. Have any presidents before Clinton admitted to smoking pot or doing other drugs? I don't think so, but I am only 25yo.

What drugs did either of the Bushes admit to doing?

Not George H Bush (Sr) at all. I was talking about Clinton, George W Bush (Jr), and now Obama.

Edit: But it has come to light that I was wrong about our current president Bush, and I stand corrected. Just here-say and rumors as far as I know.

The current Pres has never admitted to doing cocaine, or charged ....

Nor has he denied it either, I believe he refuses to comment on it at all. Not saying that is right or wrong, it is just the way he has addressed it.

Not that I am going to partake, but calling off the drug war might be the boldest, most forward-thinking thing Obama could do.

ACTUALLY ... I tend to agree w/you ... there's been soo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ooooo much corruption, waste, fraud, inefficiency, and abuse since the inception of the "war on drugs" .... and not that someone who votes "PRESENT" 129 times as a state Senator would necessarily be a "forward-thinking" point-man ... but I just don't know what the potential "down-side" is ... do you???

P.S. ... this is possibly the ONLY place where me and my "buddy" Bill Buckley parted company ...

Some what Off Topic: I saw a little bit of a PBS show on Marijuana; it said that the US spends roughly six billion dollars a year on the drug war (just pot I believe, from the shows title: "Marijuana nation"). I'm no math major, but that is an aircraft carrier a year. That is also not including all the court costs and prison costs; that extra money could be used to help fund said carriers' crew. --To that end I say let the pot heads smoke legally (not sure about all drugs, but I'm open to hearing opinions). They do it anyway, God knows. ;)

Make it legal and tax it. It works for alcohol, I believe it could work for marijuana. I hate how people have this idea that the government's job is to rise up and save yourself from yourself. If you are stupid enough to OD on drugs, or not wear a seat belt, or a helmet when you ride your bike/motorcycle it is a choice you have made and you will suffer the consequences. And don't give me the argument that the general public ends up paying for these idiots welfare and healthcare. If they are dumb enough to not wear a helmet then they don't get insurance. They made a choice, they must be accountable for their decisions and their actions.

Yeap. Make it legal and tax the shit out of the drug dealers.
It is kind of like illegal immigration. We spend soo much money without much results. Court cost, transportation cost, OT for the cops that have to show up in court. Lost time what could be spent on the streets.
No doubt DEA is doing their part but I do not think their effort has stopped users or the producers of drugs.
