First post

I am a forum junky when it comes down to the wire and results are close to being out. I never post, just lurk, but I figured it would be wise to make some contacts in the off chance I get picked up and need some advice as to the next steps. Like most of the non-pilot applicants on this website I am here for lack of better gouge on other forums . . . This seems to be "the place".

Good luck to all and happy "patient waiting" :D

Are you guys talking about the status on the STA-21 application page, or on bupers? Nothing here on either page for me.

Thanks for the welcome!!

STA-21 selection questions

This is my first time on a forum. Just wanna put that out there.

Can any one who has been selected tell me what happens after selection. There is very little info on the website. I know you have to complete Med exams and do up degree plans with colleges, but what about when do you go to NSI or when do you actually start school? Any help, (reply's/links) would be appreciated.

After you send in the med stuff and application letters, you wait. Again.

They cut orders around Dec/Jan

Does anybody know a military friendly college that accepts a lot of smart xscript credits. I'm having trouble finding a third college pick.

Jet Jockey, I think your quote should say "Hovering is..." vice "Hovering if....". Think you might have just made a typo.

Other than the obvious ODU and Citadel I think Coastline Community College is also very good with the military. Not 100% sure but I think that's the name of a school one guy in my NSI class is going to because he could graduate quickly. He is pushing the age limit so doesn't get to pursue the degree he wants but either way he is in the program. Try searching top military friendly schools if you need more ideas.

Last year was the last year for BOOST. Now it's just NSI and then off to college. Glad I was part of that class and it did help a little to prepare me for the calculus class I'm in now. If you want to try to speed up the waiting game for orders, get ALL physicals, paperwork, degree/school stuff done now. Good luck to everyone!

A little more on your question, as soon as you are selected or picked as an alternate, get you med stuff, acceptances and degree plan taken are of. Especially if you are an alternate. they will take you first if they know you are medically eligable and the other alternates are still not confirmed. Thats how i got it. I was an alternate originally but got my med package in the week of the results coming out.

wlawr005 is right about the orders. Everyone i went to NSI with got their orders in dec/jan timeframe. some alternates were a bit later for obvious reasons. I got a call from Ed Straton telling me I was selected from the alternate list and giving me the dates I would be attending NSI in Dec, right around christmas, but I didnt have official orders until early Feb.

When you go to NSI depends. They do multpile classesover the summer. This year we had a class start in Feb and one in May. You can start school right after NSI, so if you are classed up in Feb you will finish in April in time for the summer period for your school depending on your individual schools start dates, if May then you will finish in July and will start in the Fall.

I hope this helps and if you have any of you have more questions, feel free to PM me and I will help if I can.

Does anyone know if once we are selected and have submitted ours paperwork if we can call Ed and find out when we are expected to class up? I realize orders will be out in Dec/Jan however I am deploying then, and it would be helpful to have a heads up, and then just wait on the official orders. anyone have some thoughts on this? Thanks and good luck!
