Need Tailhooks

I'm making this an actual thread so it doesn't get buried in the CubiCat thread.

For the fence around the pool we want to make the fencepost old Tailhooks with chains between them to keep drunks out of the pool. Like the fences you see all over P-cola.

TMS does not really matter, but I guess if it is a E2/C2/A6 style hook, I just need the stinger part.

It's an "official" USN project so if the Navy owns them and they need to go to another command, via some sort of transfer, I can make that happen on this end.

I think the hook & chain fence is more appropriate for the CubiCat than a white picket fence. (plan B)

Anybody know where I can get them? The @$2k a hook hooks that are advertised would kill our budget. I need 6-8 hooks total.

MB, I was stashed over in the restoration hangar at the Naval Aviation Museum and might know some guys that can help with your search. I saw a few tailhooks with placards attached to them (like the ones they put infront of the planes in the museum) sitting around a while back. You may be able to use those. There may be some of them over in the storage building as well. I'll round up their contact information and PM it to you.

Kind of a threadjack, MB, but I'm curious as to how you plan to keep the water clean in the "pool"? I'm sure the health nazis will be around to check the water quality.

Spilt Beer...contains alcohol which kills germs, right?

And I would not put it past a spirited SNA to 'spike' the pool with a foreign substance of some sort at a winging party when the device will be conducting ops :icon_smil

I say you teabag it. As in the SEA DYE teabag... get your minds outta the gutter! :D

You bolter? You get green.

I would pay money to see some "choker greens". :D :D

Now that verges on genius. You are going to be a fine addition to your squadron's JOPA.

I must x-cntry to witness this. Something like the Hajj, a pilgrimage to the CubiCat.
Blasphemy? Maybe.
Shit-hot? Definitely.

Nice work, MB.

Also, ordered my AWG coat and garrison cap yesterday from Abbott. Just under $400 with stripes etc.
Plan on wearing to the club late next month. End threadjack.

Maybe a dumb suggestion, but what about all the old TH aircraft sitting out @ Davis-Monthan? I would bet that more than a couple still retain their hooks, though procuring them for your project might be a lot of trouble I suppose.

While I will agree that there are more hooks to be had at DM, the real problem is that those guys at DM are real Nazi's about anything "stored" there. Ask ANYONE that has dropped off an aircraft there. They inventory the WHOLE aircraft and will not accept any missing parts.

I think the museum here is the best bet. Since it's going to a legit purpose, I don't see how they could say no.
Rob, wanna go over there and ask the director?
