if you were to get sna and wanted to be a nfo or vice versa at what point after you got picked up could you have a shot at switching?

how many guys on here have switched and at what point in their career did they do it? during api, after the rag or when?

Do a search for redesignation or transition, there is plenty of info already on the board. If you still have specific questions, then shoot!

The when/if of redes before you start the program depends on student load, production numbers and CNATRA guidance. If you're really interested, talk to Flight Management when you get to P'cola. Make sure you have the ASTB grades and NAMI quals first, though.

Most people who redes do so either before starting the program or after their first Fleet tour. It's pretty difficult to do it any other time.

The word is that if you are an SNFO and you finish API in the top 10% of the class, you have the opportunity to submit a package for SNA. Unfortunately, there is such a need for NFO's right now, that they haven't allowed the NFO's in my API class (or the classes near mine) to even apply.

SNA to SNFO might be a different story...

My class has a guy who is going to roll out next week and go to a physical / set up a package for SNFO to SNA due to being top 10% of the class. Other then that...No idea.

I personally know at least 3 people who made the SNFO --> SNA transition at the end of API, so it can happen. I have never heard of SNA --> SNFO but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened before. But if they can switch you to SNFO after a bad NAMI Whammy, then I would imagine they could do it if you rocked API and wanted it. I would talk to Flight Management, or maybe even try to talk to the API director and see if he has any insight (the Maj. that is).

Have you put your OCS package in yet? To me this is question is kinda like putting the cart before the horse.

LOL...I hadn't even looked at that. Is there a reason you don't think you'll make designate SNA?? And how far off from submitting your OCS package are you?

My roomate was able to get a SNFO to SNA transition during NFO advanced. Anything is possible when you know the right people/make friends once commissioned. If you are told no just for arbitrary reasons don't give up. If you are being told no due to needs of the Navy or other major factors then you will probably have to accept it.
