Ash did you ever hear about supply?

I got bumped from the August boards, and I dont think that Supply has met yet for September (they usually meet at the end of the month), though I am pretty sure that I am going to go SWO.

What would you choose if you were in my position? I want to see what everyone thinks about Supply and SWO...

I don't really know what SWOs do, but my third choice is supply because I studied business and I think I have a good chance of getting picked up. It's all up to you. Don't ask us man. It's gonna be your ass on the line for the next 4 years so you'll have to live with the choice!

I know, and I have done my research... but I want to see if anyone has a different point of view on SWO ro Supply that I really didn't think of. My degree is going to be in Accounting, and I love business, so part of me thinks that Supply would be the better choice. But when I think about what I want to do, SWO sounds more of what I want to do, and I get excited thinking about being a CO of a ship one day... I feel like if I go Supply I will be settling, and not necessarily doing what I want to do. I just need some outside perspective, and asking SWOs and Supply Officers is to biased, this is why you Aviators are perfect... you hate both!

As for Supply, I have no clue. SWO sounds like it has long hours and is very difficult for the first couple years, but it has many benifits; read that post on the second page of the link. It may help you make this important decision.

Awesome, I appreciate all of your help... I will look it over right now. I got the same feeling about SWO, long hours in the first few years, but once you make it past the initial tour you will be greatly rewarded, especially to hold a CO/XO position one day... I know even those duties will be hard work, but rewarding as hell.

Asked about the caps and whatnot today and got the info straight from the OR. The caps are only for the SNA/SNFO/SWO board (all the same board apparently) and the total number of applicants is going to be 50 per board. When I followed up with if it was 50 new applications + the rollovers from the previous months that were not read, he said it was a total of 50, first come first serve. He didn't know if Oct was full, but said not to get my hopes up of getting in that one. And he did say that he'll know in the first week of the month if I'm at board or not.

Ok, well I signed my package and its getting handled now for the Oct boards (apparently my processor has to send it off to another processor before it gets sent in... hmm). Here's my stats:

Applying BDCP Pilot only

PRT/MEPS to follow a Pro-Rec
The usual work/awards/stuff like that
15 hrs PIC, no license

Honestly, not really hopeful to get in this go around - BDCP for a masters has really stiff competition and I'm graduating in about 10 months anyway. If I don't get accepted I think I won't try for a reapply but rather a direct shot.

If I'm not mistaken, Supply guys are restricted line officers. Which means you can't command if you are supply. Please correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. If you want to command you need to be an unrestricted line officer SNA/NFO/SWO that sort.

Yeah, the are Staff Corp guys... SWO/NFO/NA/SEAL are all URL, so those would be the only possible CO and XO communities (I also think that IW might as well, not sure). I am pretty sure that I am going to go SWO. I want to command one day, so I guess Supply is out.

I'm pretty excited, especially since I don't have to worry about taking that damn test ever again. Now I've just got to get my PRT done on Friday and my package will be complete. I'm doubting that it'll get in for the October (maybe even November) boards though. That is unless they split the app limit into BDCP and OCS, then I might get in just because there's a lot less BDCP.

Well, I got pushed to the October Board....so here are my stats!

My OR said the civilian processor was being "talked to and reviewed" because about 6 applicants from the Atlanta office did not make their board when the packet was in on time!!

I just called yesterday to ask if I could change OR's because mine is NEVER in the office and never calls me back... I just got the astb done, didn’t do amazing on it but I want to apply anyway and see what happens. I think I am just going to apply for SNA (I haven’t done enough research to see what everything ells actually is). It looks like I am going to have some time though so Ill look into everything before I apply. I am not sure what I am supposed to be getting together, I am going to try and call up to the office again tomorrow but if I cant get any help I may be back on asking yall to help me figure out what all I need to get together. I appreciate all of the help this site has given me and hopefully Ill be in the November Boards…
