I use these:

They sound great, are cheap (I lose/break earbuds all the time), stay in my ears, and thus far have stood up to many many workouts. Only issue I have with them is that the cord seems about 6" too long.

Yeah that's a bit long for running, since I use an iPod arm band.

I use the arm band too. I just wrap it several times around the band before i put it on. Use them for running, CrossFit, work, etc. I ran with the iPod ones as well, but I've purchased 3 of them over a year and a half (could be me, but I haven't broken my sonys yet). They seem to break down pretty easily - either from sweat getting inside, the bud actually falling apart, or the cord coming out of the bud. Also with the ones I posted, it makes a nice seal against the ear to help with sound quality.

I personally HATE earbuds. The damn things NEVER stay in, and I like headphones which are held in place on my ears, not to mention the sound quality just seems inferior to me from a small earbud as opposed to a larger earphone.

I also listen to books on tape, comedy or music when I sleep every night, so I use my headphones A LOT. It seemed as though I'd be buying new headphones once a month as I kept snapping my headphones during sleep or for whatever reason.

I finally bought a pair of headphones that are held in place on EACH ear, as opposed to the band that connects the two. I have had them for months now with NO problems. I've slept in them, PTed with them, and had cords yanked many a time with no problems.

Might I recommend the Philips SBC HS430

I bought a pair of Bose earbuds a few years ago after I fried my Ipod generic ones when I dumped water on my head in a long race (idiot). At first I wasn't crazy about them because they fell out of my ears a lot, but a few months later, without my complaining, Bose mailed me a new set of gel pads for them because "their own research had determined that the originals weren't up to Bose standards". I've been very happy with them since, and I'm kind of a snob when it comes to sound quality. I think they go for around $100 and the new ones come with redesigned buds so they stay in your ears well.

Phillips Whatever-the-model-number.
Dirt cheap (since I can't seem to keep them more then a few months without breaking them), descent sound and goes over the ear so they don't fall out when I'm running.

The ones that go over the top of your head with the plastic head band are the only ones I can keep on--Sony makes some. Earbuds drive me crazy.

Random thought:

Anyone else feel like their ears are too small for earbuds? If I wear them for more than 20 minutes my widdle ears start to hurt.

And no, I don't think its a damn you kids and your rockandroll volume issue. :)
