MAGNIFIER FOR EoTech ???

ALOHA:

I'm lookin' for and considering adding a magnifier for an EoTech HOLOgraphic sight. There's quite a variance in the prices posted throughout the web.

Anyone have any preferences based on ACTUAL experience/useage w/ EoTech compatible magnifiers?? Are they worth it, both in terms of function and price?? I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one -- if for no other reason than to "try it". So I guess the main questions are "who" and "how much" ...

Please, no alternative suggestions, i.e., CQT or ACOG or whatever. I've already got 'em.

MAHALO/Thanks in advance.

I had that same EOTech 3x magnifier. I didn't shoot perceptibly better. And it stopped me from using my flip up sight. I got rid of it about 6 weeks ago. My friend really likes it... I didn't so much. I guess if you're willing to part with the $$ give it a shot. It's a good piece of gear, just not for me.

Thanks, Bruddah -- I really appreciate the input. I totally forgot about the possible conflict w/ a rear flip-up , as the rifle an EoTech currently rests upon doesn't have them. I will probably spring for it anyway; like I say -- to try it, but thanks. Fortunately, I'm not limited to one rifle to "try it" on ...

There's always something, isn't there?? Details .... details. :)

I've used one.

The side flipping mount is a poor design. Loud, clumsy, and frequently off centerline after every use. Avoid the FTS mount. L-3's FXD mount is much better.

Let me know if you have a hard time finding one under 375. I believe it comes with the FTS standard.

Vette smartly mentioned the RSA conflict.

On an admin note. The EOTECH 553 model has had some hiccups.

SOCOM is retrofitting all battery bumpers and battery contacts after several failures during live fire. If you own one of these, please take the time to read this:
http://eotech-inc.com/documents/553 battery contact installation full bumper replacement.pdf

The 553 is of course battery operated and all battery reliant optics are BACK-UPs. Without BUIS the M-4 is not combat fit. Which brings to mind my biggest gripe with the magnifier: because it compromises the operation of the RSA, its not suitable for a fighting rifle.

Keep in mind that adding a mount to the EOTECH raises the sight plane so you may look into Iron's that have an equal spacer to allow for proper co-witnessing.

Any mount that lifts the sight plane for the HUD sight will need to be compensated for with your magnifier sight base. ARMS and LaRue both have good options for that issue.

I've used one. .... and then follows more hands-on wisdom re: the folly of an EoTech compatible magnifier ...

Boy .. THAT'S IT .... did you guys rain on MY parade!! Actually -- thanks again, big-time to both of you for the input -- it's exactly the kind of critique I was seeking. And THANKS for the EoTech retro-fit link. I ain't one of those types that has more $$$$ than brains -- at least one would hope not .... :)

Scratch one magnifier off my grocery list.

My world is rocked. My hopes & dreams are shattered. Back to the drawing board for me .... brainstorming ... contemplating ... brainstorming .... thinking "inside" of the box .... awww-w-w-w-w-w-w-w .... I got nuthin'!!!
