Dinner dress for an 0-1?

So much hate'n on the dinner dress. My only experience wearing them was at the hornet balls. It seemed like just about every fleet dude had them. Only the Rag students were more likely to wear SDBs.

I really wish I had bought them earlier, for my wedding. I didn't even want a military wedding, but now I wish I at least had the better looking uniform for the occasion. However those who warn you about the weight are right. Definitely leave some extra material.

Boat Cloak? That is truly "that guy"ish. I've only ever seen it on the Uniform Plate V. Don't even know where to get one.

Okinawa.

I almost bought one out a purposeful quest to be "that guy" for a night. How many other dudes would roll up to the ball in a boat cloak in Yuma, AZ?

It was going to be "several hundred dollars" according to the dude who made my mess dress. Not worth it.

The fats mans suit it awesome, though. The SNCOs version is better, but then again, so are their blues.

If you're going to get married - get 'em and wear 'em for the wedding, and then you'll have the "I bought them for my wedding" excuse handy. This is the only officially sanctioned reason, otherwise you'll be found in violation of the bylaws of an organization that I may have heard of at one point or another. A buddy of mine remembers what its called, but he's over at the training building right now doing ACOL, or no, wait, he's flying the 2300 NVG hop tonight.

BTW, official representatives of that same organization are on the way to Nittany's house to revoke his membership card and burn "hinge wannabe" into his front lawn. And unfortunately, someone's resurgent case of dyslexia will be to blame for why he was given the wrong number for the Admin room - unless his date is just really, really ridiculously good-looking.

...and brought friends.

...of questionable moral character.

I've got them, but I think that they look much better w/ medals & not just a spinner, I thought the SDB's looked entirely stupid w/ 9 mini-medals on the coat.

That being said, I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't have a uniform stipend that paid for nearly all of it

blah blah blah blah

If I HAD a front lawn, I'd be quaking in my boots. But I don't, and I'm not wearing boots. Oh, well . . . *yawn*

:D

Scoob, I vaguely remember said organization fining wannabe hinges. There may have even been people chucked in a pool for the egregious transgression.

I have no further questions for this witness...(apparently, he's gone so far as to get an advance copy of the hinge playbook).

The only reason I have it is because I had to buy it when I was at USNA. I think it's a cool looking uniform but in the three years since I've commissioned, I wore it once, and that was to a Navy ball.

If you got the dough, buy it. I'm with MBates though, get yourself a sweet pair of AWG's instead!

AWG's are great, if you have wings, otherwise I think someone would be a tool w/o wings on em. Not true of the dress uni, imo

How would AWG sans wings look anymore "toolish" than SDBs without wings.

(That being said, I never wore SDBs or AWGs without wings.

Well, it's just an opinion of mine, based on the whole name of the uniform. Seems to me that someone should have wings of a sort before getting the AWGs, I'll probably pick em up if they're still around in two years:)

I don't give a flying frig about awgs but at least have a little faith in your fellow AWs. They may be all the rage in 2 years if someone can inspire guys to buy them.

If they're still around when I get winged, I'm getting a set.

Quite frankly I always thought dinner dress bozo looked retarded. I have a pair that still need striping from the academy. I'd rather do that though when I need to wear them then wear SDB's with a bow tie. Still, almost 2 years and I've worn dinner dress white only once when i voluntarily went to the Navy Ball in Pensacola...

This may make me a tool, but I already ordered my AWGs. I know I probably won't even have a chance to wear them before winging, but on the off chance that they do go away, I'll always have my set. Aside from looking goofy with no wings, is there really a problem with wearing them? From my understanding they're similar to the brown shoes WRT who rates them.

One of my favorite articles refers to them originating in the TRACOM:

"Lore has it that they were first developed as a response to the
Commandant of the U.S. Naval Academy demanding that early aviators
undergoing training wear the uniform of the day" (From MB's article in Hook).

Of course anyone who knows better can feel free to correct me.
