It is surely sad that the judge is allowed to used her personal loathing to interrupt this young man's goals.

She needs to be kicked off the bench. That is an unbelievable egregious abuse of power.

I thought the judges in the foster care system existed to protect the desires and well being of the children. I can think of many cases where foster parents have treated their foster children much worse than the Marine Corp would. Her personal views on the matter at hand should have absolutely no bearing on her decisions. I agree with CM, kick her off the bench.

Perhaps this kid can petition for emancipation and then join. I doubt the courts could stop his enlistment then...

The worst part is that his foster parents and his social worker all support his decision to enlist, yet the judge still denies it.

He bowls overhand.
This kid is going to join the Corps either way. If the judge lets him do it now, he gets $10k and a guarunteed shot at a MOS. If he does it later, then none of that applies.

All this judge is doing is screwing over what would otherwise be a great opportunity for someone who has it "figured out" a little earlier than most.

Assuming this idiot's point of view is correct, and the Marine Corps is a "big bag thing"..... if it's legal for 17 year olds to enlist, and he WANTS to enlist, then it is absolutely abusing her power to let her own personal bias detract her from her legal obligations. It's not her job to play protester from the bench, it's her job to decide what's in the best interest of the child.

It's amazing that public servants are against public service..... Can you say NANNY-STATE??

The left are just so sure it is not up to the people who sign the dotted line whether or not they want to go.

I'm convinced...California judges are in a never-ending contest to see who can out-douche the others.

The left is just so sure that nobody is capable or responsible enough to be their own "decider." (Of course, the right's not much better, they just limit it to moral issues.)

This case reminds me of that California judge that struck parts of the illegal immigration legislation the people of CA voted for in a referendum. Don't remember the year, prop 187 I think...

How can they sedate you into a stupor of socialist dependency with that kind of attitude?

I suppose if the kid had asked to join the Peace Corps, it would have been okay.

One small thing, though, I don't think Force Recon takes enlistment guarantees. "Basic Reconnaisanceman" is one, though.
