Getting an MBA

That combined with the experience you get as an officer in the Marine Corps will get you a better offer than a Wharton graduate.

The Marine Corps experience might get you that cup off coffee your first day on the job!:icon_wink Better than Wharton undergrad or MBA? I think the Wharton MBA will still trump the Marine experience.

I'm doing the Boston University MSBA program. I have 1 1/2 semesters left. It's a weekend program, which fits better than the weeknight programs that the other extension programs had. The professors have generally been very good, but if you had a strong undergrad business background the 1st halves of many of the courses tend to be a bit repetitive. Overall I've been happy with it. Even the support staff is extremely helpful there.

Wharton seems to value Marine Corps leadership styles, since they send their students to OCS... Not to mention that the Marine Corps was on the cover of Fortune, Money or Forbes a while back. The Wharton guy may be smart, but the leadership/teambuilding is something the Wharton guy has only read about, but Marines have lived. I'm not saying that Wharton isn't a good school, but I'm just arguing that it doesn't matter what school you go to if you're a former Marine. I was told the following in an interview - "You're a Marine Officer, I know I can ask you to do the job and you'll get it done."

I can actually speak from experience, here. I was in mid-MBA coursework when I decided to join (read: try to join) the Navy. The opinion about online degrees is accurate in that they are plenty reputable as long as the school itself is a good one. The University of Phoenix online...not so much. However, make sure when choosing a school/program that it is relatively specialized. The much-touted MBA program that I was in turned out to be about as worthwhile as submitting a stool sample (sans container) with a resume to McDonalds.
