I know that a lot of people who frequent this forum live in the Southern California area. I would like to let you all know that my prayers are with you and your families during this crisis. :( Also, since I live in Point Loma (southern tip of San Diego) my home is safe, for now. If there is ANYTHING my family or I can do to help, do not hesitate to ask. Send me a PM for contact info.

They are evacuating where I used to own a home in Rancho Penasquitos.

I hope everyone gets out safe.

My friend in malibu had to evacuate at 7am yesterday. Apparently the fire is a way off from his house, but surrounding it mostly. So if the wind shifts, his house is toast....

I live in Penasquitos.. we're packing up right now, I was supposed to have 2 midterms today =/ ucsd is cancelled. All the freeways around here are packed.. I hope everyone else is alright.

might as well use the time to study more when I get to a safe place =/

I live up in the Inland Empire... we've got 6 fires burning up here. I know of at least 4 of my friends that are evacuating up in the Lake Arrowhead and Crestline areas. I went to school at CSUSB and the campus up there is also closed. Also one of my good friends had his mother-in-law's house burn down in Escondido, happened last night. Socal is on fire again, bad news. Reminds me of 4 years ago. Stay safe everyone, and don't hesitate to ask if you need help... I have a truck.

I live downtown, and the flight schedule seems like it might be pretty relaxed this week (if at all in the next few days) because of the fires, so if anyone needs any help I'll throw myself out there, too. PM me.

From my work, I could see the fires in Fontana and Ontario. The wind was horrible, causing damage to the warehouse and up rooting trees. Here in the La Verne/Claremont area, it isn't too bad. Just breezy. I hope all are safe.

41 has a few helos on duty, but I don't know how much Navy helos can help in a firefighting capacity other than maybe rescuing a stranded survivior or so...out of curiosity does anyone know of any instance where Navy aircraft (any kind) aided in firefighting?

I just heard on the radio (am) that there have been "armed forces aircraft" dispatched to socal for aid. As to what kinds, I don't know..

My family and I evacuated to Scripps clinic in La Jolla where there are cots and other necessities.. I left to go study in a lounge in ucsd as I now have 3 extra days* for my exams =)..

Since I was in the middle of putting together my package with all the pro-docs and such (getting my astb scores on Wed.), I should have everything ready-including my time in the air--> when I was done packing up at home, I did one final "sweep" of my room and saw my pilot's log book on my shelf- the only proof of my hours.. and I almost left it to burn. phew:p

They were moving something like 800 Guardsmen from the border to help with logistical duties, therefore taking the load off of the firefighters. Other than the "firehawks" I'm not sure what military helos would be doing other than supporting those guardsmen or doing SAR.

Perhaps my overpriced, overinflated home will burn down.....save me a lot of money ache in the end. It's in Otay Ranch, Chula Vista area....flames are about 10 miles away from my understanding.

So does 10, but I don't know what they'd do. I'd guess (like you) evac type stuff.

HSC-85 is supposedly doing work -- there were some pics on navy.mil. They were supposed to get the bambi bucket (water bucket) capability after the 2003 fires.
