Lasers and lights...

I am thinking of getting a laser/light combo for my P226 and I was wondering what the best way to go was. I was thinking of 3 option but if anyone has more insight please feel free to comments.

Option 1: Surefire X300 with Crimson Trace laser grips
Option 2: Surefire X300 with the optional L72 laser sight mounted inside the light (this I think is the most expensive option but I'm willing to pay for the quality)
Option 3: Insight M6X laser/light combo

Any insight would be helpful,

I have laser/light combos on all my AR's as size and mounting is not a consideration, but for a handgun I would think it depends on how "small" you want to go and whether or not a holster of some type figures into the picture.

ALSO ... what do you "need" a laser for on a handgun???

For example ... this is what is attached to the pistol @ my nightstand 'cause the pistol has good "pointability" to begin with and I want illumination of the target area and the possible "disorientation factor" on the part of a would-be intruder when staring into a bath of "white light":

I carry a semi-auto for most CCW concealment applications with no light/laser as I find them unnecessary -- for me. But on a S&W J-frame carried for backup or for times when the "larger" pistol will not work, I opted for Crimson Trace laser grips, 'cause the little 5-shot revolver is NOT very "point-friendly" and the sights are virtually useless. The J-frame is too small for a mounted white light and it doesn't pack the "punch" or have the ammunition capacity for a home defense application -- again, for me. So the laser pointer seems to meet my needs for this particular firearm which is generally carried concealed when the small size of the J-frame is necessary.

Crimson trace grips have pressure sensitive pads, you can flash the laser VERY easily in a similar manner as you would cup a light on the front of an M-16 to stop the light....."I am Legend" anybody?

If I was going for a laser/light combo, I'd go for a Streamlight TLR-2, the M6 if I remember right is still a bulb, the TLR-2 is a LED, never have to change it.

Or, your other option would be to wait till later this year when Surefire comes out with their X300 laser/light combo, will probably be a bit pricey, but worth it.

With CTC grips, you'll have no problem finding a holster.

I have CTC grips but the Sig they're on doesn't have a rail, I really like it. As of right now, if I cared about money, I'd go for the TLR-2. If I wanted to have 2 toys to swap around on stuff, I'd go for the CTC grips and an X300. AND THEN, when Surefire came out with their X300L laser/light, I sell the stuff on Ebay and get that.

I really don't think you can go wrong, but I'd stick with LED if I had the choice.

Also, I really like the CTC grips. They remind me of Hogue grips....similar rubber....but not as wide. If you have say the Rosewood grips on your Sig, and like them, that might also sway your decision.

I have the streamlight LED/laser combo for my M9A1 and I like it. You can flash the light and the laser pretty easily.

I am seriously considering changing my carry gun from a Mil Pro PT-111 to a wheel-gun that will accept Crimson Trace laser grips.

I know that self-defense purists advocate that the proper sight picture eliminates the need for "gadgets" like laser sights, but I'm thinking about times when you can't get the classic sight picture; your flat on your back because a BG got the jump on you, or came up behind you and broke your strong side arm with a baseball bat while you were standing at the ATM.

There's no such thing as a fair fight. I'm gonna use every advantage I can to win.

One thing you might want to look into as well are LaserMax sights. They replace the recoil spring guide rod, so they fit into any standard holster and never need alignment. The switch usually goes just in front of the takedown lever, accessible from both sides. I haven't tried them, but I've heard good things and am looking into them myself.

What the hell was that about? I've been wondering ever since I saw that flick. Is there any purpose to that technique in real life? Seemed utterly pointless in the movie, because 1) he seemed to cover and uncover randomly, and 2) he lit up the zombies with the light but they didn't notice.

I have very limited experience with laser sights. I have a light on my night stand pistol but no laser. I've found that I can narrow the light beam to the point that it's still useful as a light but it's plenty narrow enough to use as an aiming device.

From across the room ranges I can just put the brightest part of the light (pie plate diameter maybe) on the target and hit center of mass. It doesn't "jump around" at every twitch like a laser beam either.

I noticed it too. It seems like a 'hollywood tactical' move the way it played out in the movie. I'd guess covering your lamp has its real-world situations but not the way it was presented. Something more like a quick flash upon entering a room to reveal any zombies, not the constant on-off coupled with illuminating a room full of the cannibals and not getting a reaction we saw.

Personally, I am a huge fan of:

Rugged design will withstand being tossed more than 30 feet!

(as in... getting rid of it, after bustin' a cap in someone's ass)

I think a laser sight would be cool, for home-defense as well... That way I know I would be shooting someone...

"Last Christmass In that epasode the police were wondering how I could shoot + hit my victims in the dark. They did not openly state this, but implied this by saying it was a well lit night + I could see silowets on the horizon. Bullshit that area is srounded by high hills + trees. What I did was tape a small pencel flash light to the barrel of my gun.

If you notice, in the center of the beam of light if you aim it at a wall or ceiling you will see a black or darck spot in the center of the circle of light about 3 to 6 inches across. When taped to a gun barrel, the bullet will strike in the center of the black dot in the light. All I had to do was spray them as if it was a water hose; there was no need to use the gun sights. I was not happy to see that I did not get front page coverage."
