Thanks guys!! Yeah, I'm not really expecting to spend much time on a spin bike or in a pool, but I would like the option on the weekends, just so I don't feel like I'm postponing the Ironman for TOO long!

Also, my husband is a prior enlisted. I see pictures of right after he graduated from boot camp and think exactly the same thing. Cancer patient... I guess what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

I actually gained weight in boot camp. I'm sure OCS has the same type of mentality from what I have been reading which is to make "small people big and big people small."

That happened at OCS more often than I thought it would. Guys that were college athletes would tend to put on weight. Also, people that were big time runners bulked up a bit. I was a fat, lazy POS that smoked a pack a day when I showed up; I had nowhere to go but down as far as weight was concerned. I dropped about 30 lbs in 13 weeks.

Ah, the John Candy/Dewey Oxburger plan (a la "Stripes") of initial military training.

Good place to meet up?

A lot of classes meet up the Saturday before they start OCS. Does anyone have any suggestions for a Newport establishment for our last few hours of normalcy?

My class went to the Red Parrot. I would not recommend them. Check yelp.com and whatnot.

Where ever you do end up, I suggest minding your Ps & Qs. A group of 40+ 20-somethings the night before an OCS class starts up is obvious. Staff members have lives and do stuff in town too...

Might as well go to the Christian Science Reading Room.

Screw that. Shots. Lots of shots are the Order of the Day. Add in some strippers, hookers and maybe some cocaine to round out the night. Show up drunk when you report with a lit cigarette in your mouth. That way they will think you are "hardcore." Bonus points for flip flops and a trucker cap.

It'll work, I promise! Ask anybody!

You forgot the can of malt liquor and the Harley Davidson T-shirt.

Can? Can? We bringin' foeties up in this mutha f*cka!

And, I would replace the Harley t-shirt for a "Go Navy" or "Fly Navy" t-shirt for maximum points. We used to beat on the guys that showed up in those.

But, I like the way you think.

Priors would know better though than to show up in anything Navy related.

Doesn't really matter what you show up in really, you're going to catch crap. I was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans and caught shit for that. And you're in the poopie suit shortly after the fun starts, so it's not like they are going to see it for very long.

Indeed.

A buddy of mine went through Navy Boot Camp a few months back and the only bit of advice I could give him was to not show up in any Navy gear. He sent me a text when he was on the bus from Chicago to Great Lakes saying that just about every swinging dick on that bus had some "Accelerate Your Life" T-shirt on that the recruiter gave them. I never asked if it made a difference.

In boot camp, it may or may not, it all depends on your RDC. But you're right, in P-days all recruits are pretty much treated the same, and after they are in their smurfs the RDCs probably won't remember who showed up in what, unless it was something really crazy. I think that I showed up in a Pink Floyd T-shirt and a leather jacket. I probably should not have cut my hair beforehand and just went in with my hair nearly down to my butt. I am sure that my RDCs would have had a ball.
