Picking Duty Stations

For P-3 guys when do we "pick" or get assigned our duty station? Is it based on scores out of advanced or determined after the RAG?

Also how hard is it to get Hawaii - I assume a lot of guys go for that location.

You will be assigned a geolocation (Jax, Brunswick, Whidbey, Hawaii) and squadron at the FRS. Lots of factors play into where you go including: pilot/NFO manning at the squadrons, squadron progress through their IDRC (Interdeployment Readiness Cycle), number of available pilots/NFO's in your class, etc. Some guys/gals express interest in Hawaii for obvious resaons, but lots of folks try to avoid it because of schools, quality of family life, etc.

If you select P-3 out of Primary for NFO, do most still go to San Antonio or does everyone go to JAX?

Do a search, I think it's been covered in detail by others who have more knowledges on the subject ;)

I know there were some "test subjects" who went directly from Pensacola to Jax and bypassed Randolph, but I don't know if this is SOP now.

My buddy selected P-3s as an NFO about a month ago, he got sent to Randolph. Still goes both ways, I believe.

Do a search... A couple of days ago an INFO out of Randolph said the last class-up is around February '08, I believe.

The way its been working recently. Put in a dream Sheet in Corpus right before you wing- detailer will assign you VP or VQ. If VQ you will find out which squadron early at VP-30.

If VP-submit your dream sheet (again) your first or second week of classing up. Stucon will tell you that you should find out in a couple of months- Plan on the detailer being two months late with the info (My class found out with less then two months left in the program). Its been said that the assignments are based on advanced grades. However, there is a quality spread input.
