Let me preface this first by saying I'm not bitching or even making commentary, but just wondering. I was looking at the list and I only counted 9 females total. I know the percentage of women in naval aviation is low and this obviously reflects this, but I was sort of amazed to see how few there really are out there. So, what percentage of pilots/NFOs would you say are women in general? I'm just asking because I've never seen an exact statistic and I've always been curious.

Based on my experience in the TRACOM and so far in the RAG, I would say, unscientifically, very few (less than 10%?). It doesn't strike me as anything like a capability issue, so much as very few women wanting to do the whole naval aviation thing. I also seem to see more female NFOs than pilots, for whatever reason. You can make the standards the same and give everyone the same shot, but you can't make someone pursue a career they're not interested in.

There are not many. My last squadron, of 50 instructors, we only had at any one time about 4 women instructors. Don't let that discourage you. As long as you pull your weight and have a sense of humor (ie. give guys some slack for the way we talk) any squadron will be happy to have you.

The board was pretty brutal for the C-2 Community this year. Several assumed future DH's didn't make it. Next year is going to be even tougher. I'm on that board and who knows what will happen.

I would love to hear Bunky's take on it, but this is how I see it... The crux of the problem is this, the C-2 & E-2 O-4's up for DH compete against each other. That means in theory a COD guy could go to an E-2 DH billet and an E-2 guy could get a COD DH billet. I don't think a COD guy has ever gone queer to the E-2 DH tour, but plenty of E-2 guys see the light and take the COD tour. This forces the COD guys out.

The list seemed pretty harsh to me for VFA. Kinda surprising, since I know so many of peers opted out.

Interesting VP/VQ results, a complete change from the previous years, quite a few ppl selected with different backgrounds (non-VP30), which is good to see. Also, a lot of Skinny Dragons on that list, congrats Stinkster!

Has anyone tried to decline special mission?

There is at least one. When the slate hits the street in two weeks or so, the next round of bitching will commence.
But the word is CAG is holding everyone's feet to the fire, understandable from NPC's viewpoint with all of the energy spent on the process.
