You have links to Trek's homepage and Gary Fisher's homepage. What bikes did you get, if I may ask? I've worked in the bicycle business and have been involved with the sport for almost ten years now.

And where, pray tell, did you get those? :D
We got them at Bike Doctor in Annapolis, MD (shameless plug). Great store, we know very little about bikes, and the guy at the store spent probably close to an hour with us, explaining features, asking how we planned to use them, etc... We also test rode about 10 bikes between us until we found the two we liked. We're getting ready for Hawaii :D

Yes, I'm a Marine... But no, I didn't steal your bike ;)

Bike Doctor (Annapolis)...one of the best shops I've ever been in. Was Craig still there, if so he's probably who helped you (always had some sort of hat on)?

I've not been to that particular bicycle shop, but it sounds like a good one. I have worked in a similar, incredibly helpful, shop for over seven years now. I enjoy spending time with people from all walks of life, helping them find the most appropriate bike for their needs. I especially like working with the many young, very fit ladies that come into the shop. I'm going to miss that . . . .

A word of advice given that you are moving to Hawaii: be proactive regarding corrosion. I have wrenched on a handful of bicycles that spent only a brief time in a similar coastal climate. These bikes were a mess! Virtually every fastener was rusted, some were seized, and the paint was even peeling from the frames. My suggestion is that you simply wash, dry, and lube the drivetrain on your bikes, in that order, on a very regular basis. I know this sounds simple, but you would not believe how many people never, EVER, wash their bikes.

Although all have been upgraded from the manufacturer specified parts, here are links to my fleet of bicycles:

And finally an entirely custom, gorgeous mountain bike from the following company:

Incidentally, I need to thin the herd before I enter the Navy. Anyone bites here? Brett seems bitter about having his bike stolen by a Marine. Not to bring up a bad subject, but what got stolen and what the hell happened anyway?

Saw Craig, but he wasn't the one that helped us. An older guy, bit heavy, gray hair with an English or Scottish accent (it was very subtle so hard to tell).

Ah, ok, I know exactly who you're talking about. I never caught his name, mainly did all my work with Craig.

Just as a plug for those guys, whenever I had issues with my bike I'd go there and they'd let me use all of their tools and stands to fix it, plus they taught me all the little tricks and tips to do the job. That's the kind of service that seems to be harder and harder to find.
