Nothing came up on search:

This is a pretty CRAZY story, and if true, inspiring to see somebody just decide what they want, work for it, and get it.

Bravo Two zero? Really? That was the call sign/name of the SAS unit that got caught in Iraq during the first Gulf War.

The bomb exploded 100 feet above the target?

Misidentifies the AWACS plane, though a grunt might not know the difference........:D

Methinks it is not entirely true........:(.....is Skeeterman a former SF guy too? :D

...I'm assuming you didnt' read past the ad on the first page?

I was pretty skeptical at first too...you have to be insane to want to leave a VP position at a Fortune 500 NYC company to enlist in the Army...but then it seems you have to be insane to go into the SF to begin with.

And he doesn't really seem to fit the "Skeeterman model." No updates or anything since '05 or war stories.

.

Look at Illario Pantano and Pat Tillman. Both were successful in other fields before joining, or re-joining the military. Unusual to be sure, but motivational. No more "exceptional" than the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines than those who joined up in the first place, but they are testiments to what makes the US great nonetheless.

Despite what the media and certain politicians would have you believe, most servicemembers did not have to choose between the military or jail or between the military and pumping gas.

Come on, we all know the military is full of minorities who had no other choice but to serve due to a society who has cast them out ... :icon_wink

Guuilty as charged, kind of got sick of it after that.........

I read the rest, but I am still not completely buying it. He sure talks like a Wall Street bigshot, 'look what I gave up and now I am a badass'.......

I am always wary of things that are not attributable. While his anonymity makes sense it still doesn't help to confirm whetehr or not this guy is talking out of his ass.

And I have no idea where you all are finding people who think that people in the military are failures or criminals, I have yet to run into one........

I just don't see it........Now there are some who claim that people join up because the military offers them money they would not see on the outside but I haven't heard the criminal one lately.........

The jail one, I admit I haven't seen in awhile. The other, reference Congressman Charlie Rangel on several occasions and several USA Today and NYT editorials. Will try to Google an article to reference later.

I will concede with Rangel, but not many others who have any sense about them.......;)

I don't think it's real - here's what glaringly screamed out at me:

"Bravo two-zero, fast mover is ready. Calling the laze, over."
"Echo six-four, target is painted, over."
"Roger, Bravo two-zero, this is Alpha fife-niner. I see the paint...Bravo-two-zero, we are weapons hot, over."
"Weapons hot" means that the pilot has locked on our laser and released the bombs.

Now, I've never been in the SF, and I've never FLOWN CAS. But I've controlled a number of sorties. I can honestly say that this dialogue screams that he made it up.

No "10 Seconds", No "Laser On", No "Spot", No "In from the North", No "Off, 1 Away."

While I don't expect that a grunt would know these nuances, no self respecting TACAIR guy would ever not use them, as they are doctrinal. If he's recalling from memory, you'd think he would recall what the pilots said not what "sounds cool". Finally - I have NEVER heard a pilot say over.

I'm not agreeing with you or disagreeing with you, but I've met some pretty serious bad asses that couldn't very accurately relate what it was they just did just 5 minutes ago. They may be great at what they do, but they can't quite accurately put it into words. Maybe this guy isn't what he says he is, but regardless his writings will be an inspiration to young boots that will join the Army/Marines. It would really be a shame if he isn't what he says he is, but then again "Gysgt" R. Lee Ermy wasn't a Gysgt for several years while he was going by the title...
