Anyone see the departure of the Nimitz?

is good to go
I just began my spring break and recieved word from my friend that they were departing today 2APR07 from NAS North Island. I was going to head down there and show some support, but was unable. Anybody snap some good pictures or see her leave?

Stood on the pier this morning and watched Nimitz head out. "Underway, shift colors" and long horn blast occurred at about 0930 with the crew manning the rails in whites and lots of family members present on the pier. Only one complaint...no "getting underway" tunes over the 5MC!

Thanks for sharing. When do the air wings usually fly out? That is something I would really love to see.

You'd have to be onboard to see that unless you happen to be at the local staging area. Depends on how long air wing hasn't been onbaord and how much CQ much be accomplished, which determines how the deck will be run to take all the aircraft aboard.

They've got Marines onboard. That can only mean one of two things. Is there a VMFA squadron deploying with them?

Artarded questions...

What is it called when everybody stands out around the edge of the carrier like that? In what cases is it done, and why?

I heard it was a universe sign for "open the bars and motels, now".
