Went flying for the first time today!

Well not the first time, but for my first official lesson. Damn that was a lot of fun! Flew a Cessna 172 (glass cockpit), the instructor was only 20 years old but he seemed to be a pretty good pilot. Flew for a little under an hour and practice climbs, dives, 60 degree bank turns and shallow turns. I couldn't take off or land because the winds were 15kt w/ 23kt gusts (if I remember that correct). It was a bumpy ride and we kinda got thrown around but it was a great experience! I would like to see what it's like flying in calm weather now. But I am definitely hooked! I can't wait to actually get good at doing this :D Those of you doing this for a living are the luckiest people on earth!

Congrats. Flying is both a great profession, passion and hobby.

Remember, your priorities must always be aviate, navigate and communicate, in that order!!

To help settle your nerves before a flight, have a beer or a shot of whiskey. Works wonders.

Why not - what's the big deal?

Brett

Turns out its not a big deal at all :)

Ooops

"FAR 91.307 (c) states that each occupant must wear a parachute if a pilot intentionally executes any maneuver that exceeds a bank of 60 degrees relative to the horizon or a nose-up or nose-down attitude of 30 degrees relative to the horizon."

I did plenty of spins in the C-152 and A-150. The school that did my fixed wing add-on had it as an in house requirement to solo. More of a confidence booster than anything.

Is spin entry/recovery still required to be done for CFI?

Sure, doing spins, OCF and recoveries is a good thing but with no parachute............things can go wrong at any time during flight but during spins, things can go even more wrong. I want a way out when doing spins or OCF.
