Speaking in regards to overseas one of the things its hard to wrap your head around as an American unless your from a city that has a well developed one is most of these countries have highly developed mass transit systems. You can pretty much get to anywhere in Europe if your willing to take the trains and maybe add some time to your travel by not going quite as direct as you would by road. I remember having to explain to a Japanese Exchange student that we couldnt just go visit Cleveland by taking a train, she looked at us like "what the hell is wrong with you people."
