Personally, I don't like Bullpup designs ... never have ... and I'd hate to think of what would happen when the command "fix bayonets!!" was called and passed down the line ... :)

Also inhibits the quick magazine change while continueing to sight in on the target.

As far as I know, that system is dead. The Landwarrior system has moved beyond that design and has elected to retain the M-4 if I'm not mistaken. I know the XM-8 was tested in Iraq in this past war, which derived from the OICW.

I was under the assumption the xm-8 was canceled along with the OICW, but I guess not. Any idea what the word was on the performance?

XM-8 is also dead. It was tested in Iraq and they found suffecient Flaws (mostly in the overuse of polymers) to completely can the program, not to mention that the program its self was rife with possible scandle due to the whole adoption of a new weapon system without having any open competition for competing manufacturers, and you can bet every American company would have flipped sh!t.

Overall I liked the idea for the weapon, but they went way to space age and some of the ways they came up with making it lighter then the M-16/M-4 Family ended up killing it when it actually got out into the battlefield. Its a good rifle, but its not a good military weapon system.

..... Its a good rifle, but its not a good military weapon system.

Likewise ... except, unlike the space guns, it could take a bayonet and still be credible ..... and it's my all-time favorite USGI long arm ....a great hunting/target rifle ... slightly less so as a military arm :

Read that as well - The Army will be all M-4 by 2009. Apparently the only time a soldier will not have an M-4 will be in Basic Training.

I'm guessing the Marine Corps will not be far behind. After all , I think all an infantryman is supposed to do is engage targets out to 300 meters.

The Marine Corp and Army both field Squad Designated Marksmen with full sized accurized Semi-Auto only AR's - and the ARmy is deploying a new Sniper System rifle in 7.62mm based on the Knight's AR varient (very sweet looking!)

Again, I bet the Marine Corps will give up ob the whole bolt-action sniper rifle for the same thing...

Thoughts anyone?

The Corps is commited to the M-16A4 as its primary rifle and doesnt look to be going anywhere on that for a long while. I will say that the one thing that could stand to change would be to put the Telescoping stock on the 16 in order to cut down on its size for MOUT and provide a much more personalizable system. Im 5'10" and the only time I ever have my AR's stock all the way out is when Im shooting long range prone. Plus it makes the weapon much easier to transport when its shorter making for an advantage to riflemen that are constantly mounting and dismounting from vehicles/helos.

The good folks at MAGPUL are about to release their MASADA rifle - would like to see if this thing gets adopted by MIL or LEO... I think it's sweet looking!

Bullpups make prone shooting a pain if the mag extends to far down if I recall. Only solution is have a sissy-ass mag capacity with a short mag or go to a totally diffrent feed like the P90.
