Zilch
This...is...Caketown!
The Wii is a totally different beast. The FPS games are point and shoot. I assume most of you have fired weapons before. While this is by no means an accurate simulation of that, it's intuitive for people who know how to shoot, or even those who don't.
I've always said it's impossible to play a decent FPS game with a cumbersome console control, compared to a key/mouse game on PC. The Wii remote is way better than key/mouse.
Red Steel doesn't turn fast enough for my taste, and the graphics are sub-par. But, as a launch title I'll let it go. The game is fun anyway, especially the swordfights. I find myself unconsciously leaping to my feet when a Yakuza guy whips out his katana. I'm like, "It's ON, fool!" You can sit and fight, but it doesn't feel right. As you are actually involved in the manipuation of game items, you get way more immersed. You flick the control down to drop a clip out and reload, you actually push the doors, etc. Anyway, I'm what you might call a jaded gamer, but I'm totally impressed. The Red Steel game could be more polished, but as an FPS platform the Wii can not be beaten.
As for the rest, my friends and I have been playing the crap out of Wii Sports. It looks kinda gay at first, but it is a blast. I haven't had so much pure fun in my many years of playing video games. Everyone is playing, laughing, and having a good time. It's just fun. You're actually up on your feet moving around (if you want to) and it's more stimulating. You can create these little cartoon alter egos of yourself in with the system's OS, which is very easy to use. We have two baseball teams worth of friends on our Wii and it's fun as hell to play. That, and when you have a gripe with, say, your roommate, you can settle it with the Wii boxing. It's fairly satisfying to beat the crap out of a cartoon version of your friend.
The tennis and the bowling games are awesome. Like I said, it looked gay and totally boring when I saw it at first, but when you play it it's a riot, infinitely more stimulating and fun than hours spent in front of a console playing Halo, Counter-Strike (which I love) or whatnot.
And, there's tons more cool stuff on the way for this thing. It's kinda like the DS. I thought it was retarded until I tried one. Now it is always nearby. I burn the batteries out while my PS2, PC, GameCube, and so on sit idle.
Anyway, the Wii is really neat, despite the silly name. You have to give one an honest try if you get the chance.
Oh yeah, I saw a PS3 running right next to an XBox 360, both running racing games. Yeah, the PS3 looks lovely, but only slightly better than the 360. That, and the tilt control (a blatant, hasty and ineffective ripoff of the Wii remote) is not cool at all. You're better off using analog for the types of games that are on PS3. Anyway, for that extra $250 you spend over the price of a 360 (the price of a Wii, incidentally) the PS3 gets only a marginal graphcis improvement and you will have to pre-load portions of your game onto the hard drive before playing. This is due to the slow speed of the Blu-Ray reader. Sh!t, just get a decent PC if you want to do that crap. IMHO, the whole point of a console is to simplify and streamline your gaming experience, compared to something like a PC. Just plug and play, with no worries about loading, compatibility, and so on, right?
Sony has shipped a hobbled and overpriced game system just so they could push the Blu-Ray on consumers. F that noise. If you are thinking about dropping $600+ on a console, games, and controllers, just buy a Wii AND a 360, plus the related games and accesories. You'll be happier, I promise you.
