Children being shot in schools

When they keep broadcasting these shootings all day on all the 24-hour news networks, it becomes an incentive for some kid or sick old guy to get attention.

This is the third school shooting in less than a week. This time it was in an Amish school where some crazy guy went into the school and started killing kids. When did sanity become optional?

Nutjobs live among us everyday...it's what makes America great...you couldn't be allowed to even consider doing this in another country because the thought alone would entitle you to a very public, humiliating death. This type of allowance for insane individuals allows new ones to breed and thrive among law-abiding, sane individuals...and eventually, when the time arrives, they snap.

2 of the 3 seem to be premeditated. That is indeed insane, but a consequence of who we are. I pray for the victims family who need not to have lost their loved ones in so violent of a manner, but it was society that turned a blind eye to these individuals and allowed them to fester...I can't wait to hear about how these nutjobs said something of importance to which their peers and fellow americans blew off as "just crazy ramblings..."...it's coming and I weep for any of these crimes that are found to be "preventable."

Can't live in fear, however. During the snipers in the DC area, I pumped my gas in the broad daylight, open to any sniper attack that may befall me. That is courage and to live, every day, realizing that today, no matter how, could be my day...that's true living.

In conclusion, I say FVCK the insane, do what you will, we, the sane society, will prevail.

Oh, but these stories still make me sick.

Just my .02,
~Dan

Dunno. Since both of the recent shootings have ended with the shooter killing himself, I don't know that "getting attention" is a real priority for them. "Sending a message" is probably more like it, which is a completely different motivation.

Outside of, of course, the motivation of being completely insane and without a soul. What a horrific tragedy.

Your heroism humbles me.

I was involved in something like this as a kid in school. My assistant principal was shot and killed about 20 feet from me while I was taking a geometry test my sophomore year. It certainly is a tragedy that changes a person. However, it's something that these kids will get over with in time. Still saddens me everytime I hear about this kind of stuff.

I think these men do have souls, same as you or I. Just because you are evil doesn't mean you are souless. The question is not whether they have souls or not, it's where do the souls go from here.

I always get a kick out of laws like that. The only people who obey them are the ones you don't have to worry about in the first place. I live near and work in Pittsburgh, not a week goes by that you don't hear about someone taking a gun to school.

It may not STOP the bad kids from taking guns to school, but if you couldn't punish them for it, then bad kids could pack heat much more easily and openly. And what are they bad kids, the only ones carrying guns at school, going to do with those guns? Shoot each other, sure, but also kill faculty and other "good" kids.

In THIS case (less I be misunderstood...),the laws only effect criminals and would-be criminals.

Since it is probably illegal for these minors to possess a firearm to begin with, making them illegal in schools is kind of a moot point, at least for the kids. So these kids would probably be arrested regardless. If a "good" kid brought one to school he would probably be a criminal before he left his house, just for packing.

Yeah I think they do that's why they go there. We might as well just paint big bulls eyes on our schools with flashing neon lights over them saying "No guns, here, come shoot our kids all you want. We can't shot you back!"

If you haven't noticed, 2 of the 3 shootings this week occured by adults that were just passing by. So you're point is only a third relevant.

Oh, and may I just add did any of you hear what our "fabulous" Governor said in a press conference about this? When asked if and how he was planning on increasing security against these types of situations he replied something along the lines of you can't prevent a person determined to do harm when they are willing to die in turn for inflicting harm on others. So essentially NOTHING! He has no care to keep children safe. Whoopy!

Awesome! I love how you criticize without offering a solution. What do you propose to do about it? Honestly, if someone is looking to die, they will take out any number of people with them to do it. Unless of course you want security checkpoints at schools, and tell me where is that money going to come from?

Exactly. And the post I was reffering to was the one saying that laws keeping guns out of schools only effected "bad kids" or criminals. I think you and I are on the same track. The only people that the "no guns on school property" laws effect are adults, and to be more specific adults with CCW's. Since carrying a concealed handgun is already illegal if you dont have one. So, my point stands.
