Ok, stupid question (that's how you're supposed to start every new thread, right?):
I've been able to pick up on some of the lingo, but I was hoping someone could explain to who the "onwing" is, and what their function is? Granted I'm only in the A-pool right now, but I figured I could at least start to learn some of the terms that'll get thrown at me in a couple months. Thanks...

Your on-wing is the IP (instructor pilot) that will teach you the basics of flying. You'll fly your first 12-13 (something like that) flights with him/her. They basically get you to your first solo.

To tack on... You'll learn a lot from your onwing. You'll carry stuff he/she taught you to the fleet and beyond. Even if your onwing was a d!ckhead, you'll still take stuff away from each flight. If nothing else, you'll learn how NOT to be ad!ckhead (though I'm betting you'd learn more, just refuse to acknowledge it ;) ).

Thank you both for the quick replies! Are there any other terms, or gouge along the same lines that you can think of to mention?

MIF... your best friend. To elaborate, its the minimum score you need on the graded items in order to pass each block of training.

...But not to get out of Primary...oh the irony.

Really? I guess its different for us SNFOs... so long as we MIF all of our end of block and check rides, we're golden. Now as to what that means for your NSS... I don't even think God knows that...

After all, we know that your NSS is a random number pulled out of someone's rear end with a little PFM and fuzzy math...

yeah i think they told us that if we MIF'ed everything your NSS works out to be something like 28 maybe lower...
