I've seen 15s and 16s take the field arrestment. As you might imagine, the AF freaks out and it's a huge deal. Anyone who has taken a trap at an AF base knows what I'm talking about. You'll be lucky to get out of the wires in under 45 minutes and they'll try to get you to declare even for a precautionary trap.The RAAF F-111 lost its wheel on takeoff. They spent a while burning gas and opted for the arrested landing. They were worried about sliding out of control off the runway.
One of the interesting facts about this incident is that it was the pilot's first flight in his first operational squadron.

) and my biggest problem was keeping the CO and Safety Officer off the frequency while I set up the crash crew, the landing, and waved it. Too many people trying to talk at once, etc.
