Dogs...what to do when on deployment

This is for all you guys and gals who have dogs or other pets. What do you (or plan to do) with them when you go on deployment? I mean, I know a couple studs who have dogs, but what will they do with them when they go on deployment? I guess it's an easy question if you're married, but for us single folks, it's not so easy.

I'd really like to get a dog, but this whole deployment thing is what keeps me from doing it. Any ideas?

Lot of my friends took them to the vet and put them down.

Just kidding.... Seriously, some had friends in other squadrons that would watch them, or you can always have the parents or family do the trick.

I know that I had the "less than manly" pet... However, prior to deployment I found a good vet (that also had kennels) and developed a really good relationship with them. When I went on deployment I boarded my cat, and the staff treated him like he was their own... He pretty much had free reign of their office until it was time to close up.

how much did that cost you???
They cut me a deal (the relationship I made sure to develop included putting them on my Christmas card list)... Normally it was $10 a day, but I only paid $150 a month...

Developing the relationship is the important part - swing by and ask about new trends in food, treatments, etc...

Sounds simple enough to me....just get married. But I guess if girls don't like you, this could be a problem.

Squadron mates...

I'll tell you that a number of people own dogs in my squadron...Once deployed they either have a "go-to" person who can adopt them for 6 months or they've given them to their parents.

I completely understand as I looked into this option before I married the greatest woman in the world allergic to pet dander...and I had 2-3 people (parents included) that said they'd hook me up once I deployed.

Especially if you aren't married...coming home to a dog is almost as good. Just get lots of peanut butter...:D

From what I hear, your name is "rejoiced" in the private spouses forum... :D
Let there be much rejoicing! Wives dig me though. It's just hard to turn on the sparkle and charm through this keyboard. I had a CO once tell me that I was the topic of pillow talk at his house. "That Brett, such a nice young man, and so well mannered." :D
