sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Thanks guys.

Is it worth it to buy a pair of boots (Belleville 800ST/495ST) before arriving at OCS? I’ve heard the issued boots suck and I really don’t want to mess my feet up
If you can set aside some money for them, then sure. I had bought Belleville's before I went to OCS, so I was accustomed to them by the time I got there. If you can't, then no issue with just getting them at the uniform store at OCS

I would recommend the flight deck ones. The regular bellvilles look like clown shoes if you have a bigger foot size. Plus in my experience the flight deck ones are easier to break in. Just for the love of god please avoid rocky boots

Anyone know when you actually receive your official PCS orders to your first duty station? (CSWO) Is it after OCS, or do you normally know where you’re going before graduation?

I’m currently stationed in Hawaii, and I’m planning to send my family back to Texas while I’m at OCS/training.

What I’m trying to figure out is how long they could realistically end up staying in Texas before we know where we’re moving next. I’m also confused about what happens with our household goods in Hawaii in the meantime. Do they basically just sit in the house until I get PCS orders and can schedule the move?

Anyone who went to OCS from an overseas/OCONUS location with a family, I’d appreciate hearing how the timeline worked for you. Thank you.
I can tell you what happens for non-priors. Not sure how different it would be for your case. Hopefully it helps.

Your first orders (after OCS) will be to IWTC VB in Virginia. It will count as a PCS as the combination of classes you take there is around 6 months long. These orders you will receive while at OCS, typically 1-4 weeks before graduation. I got mine 2.5 weeks before. Your next orders will come after your ship selection during CSWOBC, usually around the half-way mark.

For recent CWO graduates, did you have to wait a while before going to IWBC and CWOBC? I’m wondering if OHARP is common for our designator

Also, when I talked to an OHARP CWO, he said one of his friends is doing this other thing where he goes to his duty station and begins working while waiting to go to the schools?

Based on you talking to one I think that answers your question

Depending on which community you’re going to afterwards, you won’t even need your NWUs

I don’t think I’ve worn mine since before NIFE
1 of the 3 HT squadrons had us wear NWUs to stand a watch.

It led to a lot of concerned looks and confused conversations from our friends in other squadrons thinking we’d DORed/been dropped.

That’s the only time since pre NIFE I’d worn NWUs.

VT-2 makes their SDO wear their working uniform, which is only slightly annoying compared to the computer servers that are humming super loudly right next to them lol
