The Perpetual MEGA Space Thread

You could have waited, like everyone said you should, and bought at 108 instead of 140. This is why investing in a company because you're a fan-boi is probably not a sound strategy.

Weren't you paying attention? Space-X will be worth more than planet Earth in 5 years because... uhhh, reasons... and retirement savings will be meaningless.

If the recent interview of Musk by Zanny Minton Beddoes, and his subsequent bed wetting tantrums online don’t convince you that he’s a dangerous psychopath, I’m not sure what will.

In actual space news... Jonny Kim retires from NASA. I figured he would feature prominently in future Artemis missions. Just conjecture, but I wonder if he sees the writing on the wall on the viability of that program. He's going back to the Navy, presumably as a Flight Surgeon.

His mom was disappointed he wasn't on Artemis II. ;)

The article says "Naval Aviation Training", so... NASC? NAMI?

Honestly, it seems like an odd choice to me- the guy could do so many things, if you're leaving NASA with an objectively superlative resume, why go back to active duty?

I figured that he would be on the short list for Artemis IV.

I guess it's better living teaching in the VTs.

I was surprised by this too- which is really what I was driving at with my post earlier.

Compared to being a NASA Astronaut? My suspicion is... probably not.

The T-45 guys I've chatted with over the past few years have shown an increasing level of frustration. Contract instructor pay backs up that observation.

Yeah, that was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Houston is way better than Corpus/Kingsville. And I'm sure their airplane mx is better than the T-45.

Trump looks to build a U.S. Space Academy. Setting aside if it will ever get real funding, what’s the consensus on the broader idea? Is it a potentially good idea, or a bad “placing all your eggs in one basket” idea?

I just want the Space Force to use naval rank, and have some logic/consistency when naming spaceships in the future.
