Bigger question: Why did you list your OCS availability on a date that doesn’t work with you?

I personally had to swap dates recently. I was never given an opportunity to list an OCS availability date (I believe my recruiter just put ASAP), and even if I had been, a lot of the time there's no way to know what exactly your availability will look like in >6 months.

In 6 months, your wife could be found pregnant. You could lose your wife. You could get a new job, sign a new contract. You could incur a new debt. You could take on many a burden that need just a little more time to get situated.

Yes, there's many resources to help resolve these circumstances, like USERRA, FMLA, MLA, SCRA, etc. However, it takes time for these things to work.

I encourage you all to read up on these resources. You could possibly alleviate a lot of stress in your life!
