Process for joining NROTC as a sophmore and competing for scholarship and air contract

Greetings warriors,

My 2nd eldest son has been in flight school working toward commercial pilot, has his private pilot, and is now, as a sophomore, taking a shot at joining NROTC and competing for an air contract.

As a former selection officer I am familiar with most of the process in general, but in order to qualify for an air contract he will need LASIK. Can anyone outline the process there and what the best route might be? Other than a qualifying ASTB, what else does he need to be prepared for?

What did your son say when he reached out to the local NROTC unit? That would be step 1.

Challenge him to get the answer and inform you that way, instead of the other way around. That is the best way to learn.
