29JUNE2026 IWC Board

Long story short, some locations are blacklisted for personal travel for active duty service members. I don’t know the exact website for it but I’m sure it’s just a google away.

For your security clearance they don’t care about personal travel as long as you are truthful and it’s not suspicious or with suspicious people. There is a lot that can come from that but there is nothing wrong with traveling Europe.

I will say, if it is during any type of schooling, you are not allowed to take leave during classes so that everyone is on the same page and no one falls behind. I was at Dam Neck for a C school for 160 days and there was no leave, you couldn’t miss more than like 5 class dates for any reason otherwise they’d recycle you to the next class or you’d be dropped. Not sure if with officer it’ll be easier and they’ll be nice, but I doubt it. I’d advise to communicate your travel with your recruiter or whoever your POC is so they can get it documented by an SSO or whatnot, and then plan to be completely available from your ship date to OCS until you arrive at your first duty station.

Hope this helps.

Agreed that this is very helpful! Hoping there's a little more leniency for weekend travel during schooling, but given the length of the flight to Istanbul, I guess this is one I'll probably have to miss. (Getting wayyy ahead of myself here. Let's wait for board results first 🙄)

I'm hoping for a little leniency on the weekends as well. I don't know if it's just Monday to Friday or some weeks we'll have weekends or what. I'm super fortunate to live within driving distance of Dam Neck already. True we need to get our results first, but I'm excited at the prospect of some of us potentially ending up in classes together

Does anyone have insight as to why it takes so long (6+ weeks) to get results? If the board convened over a month ago, surely they have already selected everyone..

I'm glad someone brought this up actually, and thank you for replying and sharing the info.

I've got a trip that is significantly further out but my sister is getting married in Mexico next year. If all goes well I'd hope I'm already done with NIOBC at that point. How early should something like that be communicated? Assuming I'd be going to my first command, I was planning to mention it then.
You can just play it by year, but even the school houses should have SSOs that can create travel requests linked to your clearance. Most of it is internally tracked I think, but it can come up on reinvestigations so it’s always best to just communicate as soon as possible.

If I am not mistaken, international leave always has to be cleared through your SSO at commands before OICs can sign off on it anyways.

Military. If it makes sense, then it makes too much sense for it to be a reality 🤣. I’d anticipate this week or next 100%. It’s coming to the end of the FY so I’d assume they’ll use the remaining budget to cut us orders 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I appreciate it! I'll be sure to think back on this when the time comes

I try to explain this to my mom and my wife at least once a week. I also and pumping the hopium that it's this week or next

It’s more than likely administrative paperwork that slows the process down. Having to check each individual applicant and make sure everything is good to go. Could also be manning issues (Mr. Celestin is by himself right now). We are also not the only board going on.

The actual selection of the applicants is what takes the least amount of time, aviation is generally done in a day, most are done in a few days.

Just because the board says it will start on a specific day doesn't mean it will, it can, or can start earlier or it can start later, sometimes it is a few days, sometimes it is a few weeks and only the people that actually know this are the board members.

In addition getting the list of those selected and processing the results is a low priority compared to other time sensitive items the processors actually do.

I actually was about to ask the same thing and ask if anyone bothered their recruiter as of late. 🤣

I was debating on texting mine again tomorrow. I’ve had an interim recruiter while mine is on maternity leave for the past two months. The only message I’ve ever gotten from him was “copy thanks”. Idk how much differently I’m getting processed but being ISEL I just hope things are moving as they should. Been 14 weeks since I applied now
