Hope you caught the UH-1B Gunship. I was team lead on the restoration. Very proud of it. The AF Guardian honoring ADM James Stockdale and the A-26 are two of my favorites.

Certification to carry nukes is important for our allies that carry them on their own aircraft and was a major factor in several of them, to include Germany, in purchasing F-35's as the Eurofighter is not certified to carry B61's (the bomb in the picture).
Sentimental Journey . . . man. I was a little kid when she came to the Akron-Canton Airport in my hometown, and helped to set me on the path of flying for Uncle Sam. Fast forward 30-some years, she's still flying, and my hometown MAPS Air Museum now has a Prowler I've logged flight time in . . .
We went to the Hale Koa about a dozen years ago, was thinking about taking the family there this winter. Anybody been there recently?
I’ve never stayed there…we’ve used the pool facilities several times.

We went there two years ago and I highly recommend staying there, it’s a great property, the restaurant is affordable with good drinks and food, adult pool/hot tub.
We walked all thru the other civilian resorts and couldn’t see spending that kind of money when this one is just as good.
Plus the Hilton next door puts on a good fireworks show every Friday night that’s visible from the lawn before the beach at Hale Koa.
Go to Kauai and stay at the PMRF beach cottages. Waikiki is boring, but if you must, I agree that the HK is a great deal. If you want to be on Oahu, but away from the fray of downtown, KBay has some good lodging options on base. Big Island has the Kilauea Military Camp that is right inside the Volcanoes National Park.
Dinner at The Rim at sunset with the caldera active after a day in the park was a top-ten travel* experience.
While HK is a good deal, I personally wouldn't choose to stay in downtown Waikiki if I didn't have to. But... Last year I was looking at K-Bay lodging options for a possible visit and it seems like they're so busy there that they're putting people not on orders over in the "rustic" cabins over by the runway. Recent reports are that you'll at least get closer to the local fauna (not of the standard Hawaiian gecko type).
It could still be a good deal (although I'm not sure if they have AC over there), but just go in managing expectations.
Will have to raise this with Mrs. 7H for our vacation list next year. We haven’t been to Hawaii since before the pandemic.
I’ve stayed in their Navy Lodge equivalent there for around $150, and in the ghetto trailers by the water for half that. Probably wouldn’t take a family to the latter, as it’s a bit more like camping, but you can’t beat the price. I much prefer that side of Oahu.
Best strategy to get into the cottages at PMRF is to call Dee in the MWR office and ask for availability. If you’re flexible, there are always cancellations to jump on. The website is painful. The cottages are “rustic” compared to the big resorts, but you’re right on the best beach on Kauai and the price can’t be beat.
