Apparently VAS got the date wrong and the crack was in March. Still, the comments are pretty entertaining:

"Maybe the pilot couldn’t see the crack prior to takeoff because the sun was in his eyes"

"This guy's whole career is just one long emergency."

 
So, an ophthalmologist can’t figure out how to see? He probably has a 100 pack of those eye-dialated sunglasses laying around his office.

I was a little confused by that second news story, which kept calling him an osteopath despite that his occupation is opthalmology. Both are abbreviated DO. State of modern journalism I guess.

I wonder how it was determined that this guy was the pilot heard in the video? Side number registration? I'd hate for someone to get doxxed that wasn't even sitting at the controls.

AFAIK, ophthalmologists are doctors, which can be MDs or DOs. That may explain it.

I would guess the internet dug into the plane's LLC and found him that way. I was down in KSPG last week having lunch with a friend and a guy in a Cirrus who behaved as one would expect from someone in a Cirrus was flying a plane under a LLC. Between my friend and I, we found out a surprising amount of information in about 10 minutes. After that I got bored and stopped looking.

To your point, though, what we found we also figured out wasn't the guy flying the Cirrus, and the actual LLC owner appeared to be a former CG Herc pilot, who most certainly would not have been as oblivious on the radios as what I witnessed.
 
I guess I've just reached my threshold, but the number of ding-dongs in the helicopter world has really been frustrating me as of late. I give you an example (make sure you stay to the end for Allegiant.):
