Random Griz Aviation Musings

I had the opportunity to do some mountain flying in the mighty 182 this weekend (finally made it to Leadville) with a couple of friends- one is a mountain instructor, and put us through a mountain flying course:

KCOS-KANK-KGUC-KLXV-KGWS-KGNB-KAPA

Awesome experience! While not my first time in the mountains, it’s totally different when you don’t have the superpower of high thrust to weight.

Did you get the T-shirt at Leadville? That's awesome!!!! Did you need O2? That's a sweet 182T with G1000 and GFC700.

It’s a sweet setup (T model, but no turbo!) It’s even plumbed with an onboard O2 system, which we made copious use of, riding thermals up to 14,500’ MSL. Was nice on the way home too, as 13,000’ was smoother with better winds.

I bought a coffee tumbler and a mountain weather book at LXV, along with the free chart and mountain airport directory they give you. Mrs. 7H says I have enough T-shirts and hats already. :(

I did the same thing this time last year - flew a 182T solo from Wright-Patt AFB to Grand Junction, CO for a week of mountain flying with my active duty colleagues! Had to haul along an O2 bottle.
