Road to 350: What Does the US Navy Do Anyway?

Deal Team 6... so cringe. I'm all about reforming the defense acquisitions process, but I have zero confidence that this administration can take on this monumental task and produce results. This has lots of DOGE vibes. Let's see how they deliver on their promises in the 2.5 years they have left in office.

Not to mention that it would take alignment with several other stakeholders beyond just the administration (looking at you Congress) to make any meaningful change. Would love to see it happen but I'm not holding my breath or uncrossing my fingers.

I love how he implies that if the big primes don't do what DoD wants, then they'll find new contractors that will. Not a whole lot of start-up aircraft manufacturers or shipbuilders. That's one reason why the LockMarts, Boeings and NGCs of the world have so much leverage. That part is conveniently hand-waived by SecDef.

If it were credible, yes.

This kind of seesaw performative politics is exactly why I exited the Defense sector- I was tired of being conveniently labeled as “the problem” while every solution I busted my ass to come up with was roundly ignored by USG or so mired in process and under-resourced there was no way forward.

Good luck, it’s a tough space to be in.

It’s interesting for me now, being in the wine industry, seeing some organizations really struggle with the basics. It’s also nice being in a situation knowing that I could help fix what is wrong, then realizing that it isn’t my problem and I’m not getting paid to solve other people’s problems… at least not yet. I feel this way about all the struggles I see my former Navy colleagues go through. All of this to say that I’m really glad to be out of government service right now. 😀
