Task Force Admiral game

Not intended as a promotion, and I'm in no way affiliated, but figured there'd be interest...

New early access PC game called Task Force Admiral is releasing end of this month. As the title suggests, it's centered on command of a naval TF, particularly carrier operations, during WWII.

There's a demo on Steam and I've been checking it out. I've been pretty impressed with it so far.

I had a lot of time on Sonalysts' Fleet Command back in the day. Was pretty cool to find out they run a number of actual theater-scope sims for Navy war games.

That was a great game, and that firm had a few other good "Naval" games. I was also a big fan of the original Harpoon game, but was disappointed with some of the follow-on efforts with that platform. Are there any good games like that out there today?

I’ve been goofing around with “Command: Modern Operations”. It reminds me a lot of the original Harpoon but is a complex game.

I tried CMANO and didn't really care for it. Found it to be laggy, buggy, and plagued by poorly designed UI. That was the first year it came out, so maybe they patched some of the issues out since then, but I'm not so sure given that their typical response to players complaining about the UI was that the UI is fine, the players just needed to adapt to it.

Another naval game that I think tried to resurrect the JFC model was Naval Warfare Arctic Circle. Had some promise but the developer gave up on trying to fix its issues.

Micropose published a Cold War-era task force level game that's still being worked on, as well. I haven't played it, but Sea Power allows you to conduct air warfare, SUW, ASuW, ASW and submarine operations at the commander's level. The game should be much more mature now since it came out in 2024.
