it is well understood how important career timing is for a naval officer, but @Brett327 has set a new standard, turning over his PMTC command, retiring and moving from HI before a tsunami rolls over his former base. And of course, his relief is cursing his luck. Hope there is minimal damage and casualties.

I wouldn’t worry too much about this event, though I’m sure it got the attention of the folks at PMRF. 😀

I wouldn't say that I understand the physics (or hydraulics) of tsunamis, but I did figure yesterday afternoon when we got the alert, that if Shemya didn't get wiped out in an hour, we'd probably be ok. I'd assume DoD would pass that info along amongst itself. But then again, maybe not. "OMPF is getting deleted"......"oh wait just kidding"

In October 2022 when NK launched a missile that flew over Aomori my phone instantly got notified through the Japanese cell network. It wasn’t until I had been at work for 30 minutes that I got the DoD ad hoc notification on my computer, so I have my doubts.

Well to be fair, ballistic missiles are faster than tsunamis. Otherwise we'd just put nukes on tsunamis.
