Hey yall

Well its official, I finally passed the damn test lol
I am so thankful for all of yall on here. I never thought i would actually get to do my post on here, but here it is yall. This is for all of you, for helping me make it past this milestone!

OAR 46, 5 ,7, 6, Shooting for USMC Pilot

Math: I basically had algebra and geometry, no calculus or anything crazy, alot of probability questions.

Reading: Dry, boring, almost ran out of time but literally the answers are in the text

Mechanical: i got a little bit of everything from electrical to springs, heat, pressure, balance forces. Everything was conceptual, don't over think the problems. Keep them simple.

ANIT: I mainly got questions regarding parts with planes and boats but also some general aviation questions in regards to performance and random ones like icing temperature.

UAV: averaged 2-3 seconds on each and only missed one. Other than that, USE THE COMPASS TRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Without it, I probably would've failed

PBM: Just do the best you can on it, write your emergency procedures and focus on the sounds in the ears on the headsets

Overall, I've studied for months off and on and I went in nervous but confident and that helped out alot. This was my second time taking it and I'm so happy it was my last

Yall I just had an idea, what if you used the new suction cups that you bought on the x52 HOTAS stick/throttle and brought it to the test. Took off the old suctions and replaced them with the new ones? Would that be too sus? Considered cheating?

Don’t really think you’d be able to do this. Testing is supposed to be the same for all applicants or at least as close as possible to the same to create equal and fair results.

So the throttle/stick is supposed to be loose for everyone to make it fair? That means people who test with new HOTAS equipment have an unfair advantage ?. Mental gymnastics man

Does anyone know if there is a joystick and throttle compatible for Mac? I am trying to use the jantzens ASTB simulator but it's almost pointless without a joystick or throttle.

I know the Logitech X56 is compatible with Mac. That's what I have and it works flawlessly. Wasn't ever able to figure out how to use it with the Jantzen sim though.

Thanks for the help on this. There was another simulator similar to the Jantzen that is used in the TBAS that is compatible with a joystick and throttle.

I wouldn’t use the TBAS version. That one uses rudders and the corresponding “screen” is on the bottom below the joystick screen as opposed to being to the left of the joystick screen in the ASTB. Not to mention it literally uses a rudder as a controller rather than a throttle.

Anyone know if the compass trick still works for the new UAV portion? I have a hard time visualizing what the new UAV section looks like but I’m assuming the compass trick will still work

Just took the OAR and got 53. Very dissapointed given I studied for 2 weeks using Barron’s and another test prep book. The math section was basically the same as what I studied but the Reading and Mechanical Comprehension portions were significantly harder than what I had been practicing with.

My degree is a BA in Intelligence Analysis, 3.95 gpa. Looking to apply for 183X. Was told by the recruiter that my score was competitive and that I should submit but I don’t know…

I can retake the OAR in 30 days but the IWC Intel Proboard package is due Oct 7th. Assuming I retake, that would give me around 2 months to put together the OCS package.

In any case, I’m glad I know about this forum now. Would appreciate any insights as to whether or not I should just submit or retake.

Which test prep books did you use specifically?

My Officer recruiter says that the navy calculates all degrees into one overall GPA. Right now I have a overall GPA of a 3.05. Earning my MBA in supply chain logistics management and my Master’s GPA is a 3.7. I have 2 semesters left and I’ll have my MBA.

The opportunity presents itself for me to take additional undergraduate classes to boost my overall GPA. This Fall, if I move forward to taking a few undergraduate classes and pass those with A’s, my overall GPA would push to a 3.1, maybe a 3.2. Is this worth it overall? When applying to the Supply Board, are they going to be more concerned with my Master’s GPA since it’s more recent?

The board will see both your UG and MBA GPAs.

I’m about to start studying for my ASTB but I’m really overwhelmed with all the info that I’m seeing on here and I have no idea where to start! Any advice? Possibly from any prior enlisted folks??? Please explain to me like I’m 5!

Basic engineering classes. Newtonian Physics will take you a long way for the math and mechanical section
