Background check: Prior SF-86 forms

Hi everyone, strange question.

Has anyone here had issues with the Marine Corps looking at prior SF-86 forms with discrepancies to current ones?

I had disclosed my prior 1 time illegal narcotic use in college on a prior SF-86 that got me disqualified from a government job. I chose to keep it from my application for OCS since being honest about something so small got me disqualified. I didn't want to risk it happening again. However, I'm getting paranoid that it's probably going to pop up. Part of me wants to fess up to my OSO and hope for a waiver.

Basically, I'm asking for advice before I move forward with the application process as I haven't even taken the ASTB or PFT yet, nor have I filled out background investigation paperwork, etc.

I guess it really depends if it was submitted and reviewed then you were DQ'd or if was sent to OPM and then you were DQ'd.

I wouldn't worry the OSO would find out, I would worry the USMC would find out after you were commissioned/in OCS and then you could get hit with fraudulent enlistment charges.

Agreed. Do you happen to know if the Marines could waiver the drug use thing? I don't see why they wouldn't. But then again, I'm not sure how anything works.

I think they would for MJ, but for anything else I would say doubtful I know of 1 person that was given a waiver for a 1 time use of cocaine that was picked up, but that is 1 person over many years.

I think I will pay my OSO a visit and explain the situation. I've been studying and training my ass off for a couple months and I'd hate all that hard work go towards nothing.

The best policy is complete honesty. The next best policy is to be truthful if anything comes up. Coming clean after something like this is a crapshoot. All of that said, it seems like your intent was to deceive, which is fucked up. It's not up to you to decide which of the entrance standards apply to you.

If you happen to get commissioned, the consequences for being deceitful on security matters or other important things will be much more significant once you have a clearance and actual responsibility for people's lives.

Learn from this, and move forward.

You say that... But then your only profile info here is Birthday Apr 20, 1969 (Age: 51)

You might think it's funny- but no one else does. And then you throw in that you lied about narcotics use.

So I don't think you get it.

There is a lot you can come back from, but dishonesty isn't one of them. There are plenty of military officers on this board who disagree with one another. Some of those disagreements are very heated. But no one questions anyone's trustworthiness, because we all understand what trust in this business means.

We don't tolerate liars. You lied.
