Hello everyone, I don't know if this question has been answered yet but I am a reservist in the Navy and about to graduate college in May. I want to be considered for this years selection and the board for the program I am applying for convenes Feb 12. I wont have my degree until May, can I submit the rest of my application and then send my degree certificate when I get it in a few months?

You can apply as long as your less than a year from graduating so you could apply starting may of last year.

Oh wow I didn't know this. I graduate next year but I plan to take the ASTB in August after studying all summer. I planned to submit my packet for a pilot slot next may when I graduate but I guess now I can do it in Fall.

That’s what i’m doing now, i was just accepted in this last board in january and i graduate in may. you’ll get a pro-rec from the board when the results come back but you can’t receive an ocs date until final transcripts are submitted along with your degree completion

Oh wow congrats! So I'd imagine you'd ship out pretty soon after graduating right? Since you got accepted. Also are the boards like interviews?

Thanks so much man! And i won’t know my date until after I graduate like i said, but it should be right as soon as i graduate. Boards are very similar to applying to most colleges where’s there’s no interviewing. You’ll contact your recruiter and put together a package and he submits to the board and you just wait. Simple as that. Some people have gotten interviewed for secret clearance but no direct board interviews.

Officer recruiters can only work with Navy reservists if you are applying for CEC, JAG, medical, and chaplain programs. Otherwise, you have to work with your Navy Counselor via CoC because you will be considered as a “fleet” applicant. Good luck!

That is a very common misconception. Any enlisted reservist can work with an OR for any program AC and RC. Only Active are required to submit applications in accordance with the 1420 via their CCC. Even then I highly recommend contacting an OR if you or your CCC have questions or need assistance.

NRC stopped this process years ago putting out notice to all NRD's/NTAG's directing SELRES to the CCC, some SELRES have been able to work with OR's while others are still being turned around by the NTAG's saying they can only work with through their CCC's.

I believe SELRES should only work with OR's but NRC has not provided clear guidance on the change to the process or did what they did before and put out a directive to all NRD's/NTAG's.

I cant speak to whatNRC put out years ago but any SELRES out there who are being turned away by an OR can PM me. If they don’t want the attainments then I’ll take them.

Never one to shy away from admitting when I am wrong:
Per the latest CRUITMAN-
Enlisted Reserve to Officer Reserve = OR
Enlisted Reserve to Officer Active = CCC
(Except CEC, medical, JAG and Chaps)

That said, I have personally submitted SELRES applicants to 1160, 1390, 1370 and 3100. With no pushback from the boards.
Guess I just slipped through the cracks when I did that.

That said I still stand by my original statement that I highly recommend applicants find an OR to help guide your CCC. Many CCC are not very familiar with the process and forms needed.

This is what needed to be put out, too many SELRES have been turned away by OR's, unfortunately their are too many enlisted recruiters that don't know Officer programs that have been tasked to handle officer prospects.
