Surgery after pro rec Y

Hello,
I’m Pro Rec Y for SNA and won’t be going out the door to OCS for another 8 months due to a civilian flying job commitment. I would like to get a rhinoplasty/chin implant soon (like next month) and am wondering how that would affect my status. I am also getting my vision retested at an ophthalmologist tomorrow because I could be borderline on the 20/40 in one eye, so LASIK is something I might consider depending on those results. I’ve done some searching on these topics but I think I am in a slightly different situation due to the long wait I have before OCS. I am aware the LASIK requires a waiver but not sure if the cosmetic surgery will require a waiver
I’d really appreciate any knowledge before I contact my recruiter to discuss this
?

I would 100% consider the LASIK surgery if you're borderline. I have an NFO in my squadron who showed up to OCS as a pilot with borderline eyes and was not given any love during his OCS flight physical. You have 8 months to sort this out, talk with your recruiter. Bottom line, if you're already a civilian pilot would you be happy pursuing a career as an NFO for the next 8 years?

What will happen is you will be TNPQ (temp not phys qualified), then you need to submit all documents for review, there could be a consult needed or not, the wait for eye surgery is 6 months after surgery.

It is possible they will keep you as a pro Y, or they could turn you into a N and have you reapply.

Thank you all for the gouge and thoughts, that was exactly what I’m looking for. Allego and time bomb- I guess that was my original opinion going in. I kind of started second guessing myself because being a pilot means a lot to me- like puck brought up. Initially when I started this process I just needed a job ASAP because my old airline was affected by covid. I ended up finding a pretty dream civilian job so the goalposts have changed a bit and I want to continue flying as a pilot if possible. I appreciate the nitty gritty details OffRec. I’ll keep yall updated.

Alright looks like I’m 20/40 with no problems in my worst eye and 20/30 if I squint. So far so good, I’m not going to take any big risks with surgery- going to roll into OCS- and if something goes wrong I’ll deal with it then and make the best of it, but at least I have peace of mind that I did my part. ?

I had surgery after my physical and prior to OCS. I had four months between physical and OCS. When I arrived at OTCN, they showed us our med paperwork and because the procedure was very minor (removal of a pilonidal cyst), they provided me with a waiver because it was healed up. The cyst is a potential temporary DQ until resection so I felt like I needed to get it done. That being said, if you're going to get a cosmetic, non-essential procedure, it would probably be best to wait until you complete OCS.
