Interesting that it's coming out after the election. I am NOT suggesting the WH would use such a film for political gain - just saying it's "interesting".

It was forced to release after the election....they wanted to release before it for obvious reasons but were denied.

The White House has final bottom-line authority over all movie releases. Didn't you know that, Brett?

Sony pushed back the release date voluntarily as to not make it into election fodder. No one tried to "force" them to do anything. Furthermore, Kathryn Bigelow denies that she was given any special insider access to classified information during the writing process.

Wait...so you're saying that a movie studio pushed back a relase date because they didn't want publicity for the movie? They didn't want people talking about it, or lots of news pieces talking about the "controversial new film from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, which opens in December"? How does that compute? That's all buzz, man, and unless it's "this movie sucks," you want people talking about a film as much as possible.

Unless you're saying that Sony is run by hard-right Tea Partiers?

Republicans have claimed that the studio was given improper access to classified materials to make the movie, and that this movie was to make Obama look good. Sony moved the release date back from October to Dec. 19th. I can only speculate about Sony's motives. Maybe they wanted the movie to be taken more seriously. How many conservatives go to Michael Moore documentaries? Probably not many. I'm guessing that Sony didn't want this movie to be seen as a partisan hack job, and by delaying it they will eliminate that risk.

I know what you're saying...but how does that make sense? Why would Sony care if people think there's politics involved?

The studio wants tickets sold, period. If anything, they'd welcome lots of controversy, no matter how asinine and manufactured, because it's people talking about their movie, and they didn't have to pay for it.
