I don't really see the point of bringing your own laptop if they are supplying us with computers anyways. Unless you have to change your Ipod playlists every day or you are a porn fiend and have your entire harddrive jam packed with smut! :D

It seems you have answered your own question. :D

There is cake, they just used baking soda instead of flour, salt instead of sugar and the cake has a 20 degreee angle on that was fixed with extra frosting on the low corner, since there wasn't any frosting mix left it is actually jelly with corn starch in it. So don't say there is no cake, it exists, but it is never as good as you think it is going to be.

That is funny because I distinctly remeber cakes like that on the boat.

Ok, so here's a question for everyone:
I live an hour and a half away from Newport, down in Groton, CT. Should I take my vehicle the first week up to NSI, or should I wait to bring it until the first week of liberty?

Bring it, you are that close just do it. My question for everyone is, who is down for going to the casinos near groton? I know they owe me some money because I haven't got any money from them in a few years.

On a different note, I just checked MyPay and my mid-month LES isn't posted yet which is causing me a bit of concern. Usually they are available for review online 3-4 days in advance of actually getting paid and since there are several changes in my pay going into effect as of this paycheck (loss of BAH, BAS, Sea Pay and getting paid for 30 days of leave sold back) I'm wondering if this is a sign that my pay is going to be F'd up? Anyone else in the same boat?

I noticed that too, but I called 1-888-DFAS411 and it is updated on there, so I think it is just a computer problem, but since we get paid by a computer who knows what will happen.

Ok, I just checked mine via DFAS 411 and it was updated, however I have a question about how they disburse funds for leave days cashed out, because I sold back 30 days and my pay seems a bit low for them to be giving me the whole month's pay in a lump sum. Do they normally disburse it equally among two paychecks? Or do they tax it more heavily when you sell it back, thereby screwing us even more?

Dont fret over pay issues while PCS'ing. In a perfect world your pay will adjust accordingly. If you continue to receive any special pay or BAH, DO NOT SPEND ANY OF IT!!! When we check into PSD talk with the clerks and have them help you.

I was just concerned that I wasn't going to get anything on the 15th! I'm all but "tapped out" right now after all the money I've had to shell out for new uniforms, tailoring, dry cleaning, buying supplies on the list from the BOOST "Welcome Aboard" package, etc. How does that work though? I mean do our special pays and allowances end as of the day we check out of the command we're transferring from or as of the day we check in to BOOST/NSI?

They stop the day you checked out. Some people will continue to receive BAH. You keep it if you will be going to school in the same area as you PCSed from. For example, I will keep BAH because I was stationed in Charleston, SC and am PCSing to Charleston, SC. Your SDAP will stop unless you meet certain requirements like SEAL. I believe all of that infomation is contained in the STA-21 instruction.

Ok, so for guys/gals like me on transfer leave, how does BAS work? Am I entitled to it? I'm not eating food onboard my ship and I'm not eating at the Newport galley yet, so do I get full BAS for these two weeks I'm on leave?

Forgive my ignorance, but this is my first PCS as I have been stationed on the same ship for the last 5 years and I don't know any different!
