Applying to OCS as soon as possible, but I was just wondering if anyone knows when Tricare insurance would take affect. Tricare.mil just has a basic “Active Duty Service Members: Your Coverage begins the day your application is received” which is not helpful. Thanks!

You (+ family) are eligible for tricare the date you report to OCS. With that said, it could take days or even weeks for tricare to reflect you and your family in the system.
Strongly recommend you have health insurance covered at least the first 1-2 months you’re in OCS to bridge the gap. Once your tricare benefits are good to go your family can cancel the other insurance.
